    ODU Positioning

The ODU can be either pole/tower or wall mounted

Easy access to the unit for installation and testing

Installed as close as possible to the antenna (if there is one)

Antenna position make sure coverage will not be affected byenvironmental conditions

For instructions on installing the antenna, refer to themanufacturers manual

Higher antenna placement ,better achievable link quality

The antenna of the Access Unit should be installed so that it willprovide coverage to all Subscriber Units within its service area

Minimum distance between two antennas is 1 meter/3.28 feet

The antenna should be installed to provide a direct, or near line ofsight with the coverage area

    13

    ODU Installation

The Outdoor Unit can be mounted on a poleusing one of the following methods:

On a pole, using the clamps and threadedrods.

Special clamps and open-ended bolts aresupplied with each unit.

There are two pairs of threaded holes on theback of the unit, enabling the special clampsto be mounted on diverse pole widths

Insert the open ended bolts with the groovespointing outward since these grooves willenable you to use a screwdriver to fastenthe bolts to the unit

Installing an outdoor unit on a pole, usingthe metal bands

Insert the bands into their designated placeat the ODU (at the top and at the bottom)

Attach the bands to the pole by fastening thebands' screw

    ODU Installation

Use isolation material (such as tar bands) to cover all outdoor connectorsto prevent water penetration into the cables

Using 3M's cold shrink tube 8426-9 as a solution for sealing isrecommended

This solution requires no training or special tools

If you are using the 8426-9 cold shrink, leave a 10 cm/0.32 feet space tokeep the cable flexible

    Antenna Positioning

When the BS antenna isinstalled outside theboundaries of the roof

    Antenna Positioning

When the BS antenna isinstalled on a pole ontop of the railing, theantenna is not blockedby anything on the roof,or on adjacent roofs

It is essential tomaintain a minimum

distance of 1.5m/4,92feet between the lowerpart of the antenna andthe top of the roof, fence or railing, whichever is closer tothe antenna

    Antenna Positioning

When the BS antenna is installedon a pole and the pole isinstalled towards the center ofthe roof, the antenna may beblocked by objects on the roof orby the railing or fence

It is essential to maintain aminimum distance between thelower part of the antenna andfence or railing, in order tominimize disturbance of theantennas lobe

The distance to the roofs floorand the fence depends on thedistance of the antenna from therailing

The farther the horizontal distanceof the antenna from the raising, the larger the vertical distance

    BS Antenna Alignment

Identify a reference point on the landscape

Add or subtract 90 to/from the Base Station azimuth

Using the compass, align the outer frame of the antenna

    Base Station IDU Installation

Attach the cable guide to the top panel of the chassis

Install the chassis in a 19" cabinet

Note: For installation in a ETSI rack a suitable adaptors should beinstalled on the chassis

Leave a space of at least 1U between the upper covers of thechassis and other units in the cabinet

Connect the grounding cable to the ground terminal located onthe rear panel of the chassis and

Connect the opposite end of the grounding cable to a ground

    connection or to the cabinet

    Base Station IDU Installation

Carefully insert the modules into the relevant slots

Secure the modules in their intended locations

Place blank covers over all of the unused slots

Connect the DATA port of the NPU to the backbone (use astraight Ethernet cable to connect to a hub/switch and a crossfor a router )

Note: The maximum length of the Ethernet cable is 100m/328

feet when operating at 100 Mbps and 70m/230 feet whenoperating at 1 Gbps

If the MGMT port will be used for remote management, connectit to the appropriate data equipment (use a straight Ethernetcable to connect to a hub/switch/ and a cross for a router

Note: The maximum length of the Ethernet cable is 100 m/328feet

Connect the DC power cable to the power jack of the PIU

module If a redundant PIU is installed, connect a DC power cable also

    to the second PIU module

Connect the power cord(s) to the -48 VDC power source(s), asfollows:

Connect the black wire to the -48 VDC contact of the power source

Connect the red wire to the + (Return) contact

Connect the ground wire to the ground

Any BS installation using AC-DC converter (rectifier, ups), mustbe approved by electrician for clean AC and DC inputs, includingproper grounding
