The Master Of Our Fate (continued from page 1) "Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." (“Invictus” by William Ernest Henley) "I am the master of my fate." I am Superman! Until the desert rips the cape off my back. A wasting disease. A spouse of twenty years walking out. Bankruptcy. Or worse, reaching the pinnacle of success only to find it empty and unsatisfying. God's Word tells us who He is, and who we are. That we are not the master of our fate. Jesus is, and so we depend on Him for everything. From the breath we breathe to the blinking of our eyes to the food on our tables. We depend on Him for everything. Everyday. "Give us today our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11).
