    Sanitation

It is likely that the gradual climate changephenomena such as temperature rise and erraticpatterns of rainfall will lead to increased waterdemand and more droughts. Sea level rise and

salinity intrusion will result in the deterioration inwater quality in the coastal regions. Extreme eventsparticularly cyclones and storm surges will damagewater supply and sanitation infrastructure.

Increased water in the monsoon will damagesettlements and infrastructure, resulting in diseaseoutbreaks and more frequent deaths compared to theexisting situation, whereas lack of rainfall in themonsoon will cause scarcity of water for drinking andsanitation. Drought will also create scarcity of waterfor irrigation, which will affect crop production anddecrease livelihood options of the poor.
