Homework is given daily- 30-45 minutes per day plus 20 minutes of Independent Reading a night
Students are expected to turn in their best work
Incomplete homework assignments will receive a Homework Deficiency Notice
Grading Policy
Subject specific grades will be based on tests, quizzes and classroom activities. These forms of assessment are assigned to show a student’s mastery of grade level standards
90-100% = A (Advanced)
80-89% = B (Proficient)
70-79% = C (Basic)
60-69% = D (Below Basic)
0-59% = (Far Below Basic)
Online Grades
We will be switching to a new online grading system and it is still being finalized. The new system will show all grades and attendance for your Champion.
Once the system is ready to go live, each of you will receive information on how to login to the new grading system.

Making Good Choices
Students who make positive choices are rewarded for their positive behavior: Blue raffle tickets for weekly prizes Duke Dollars Scholarships Class points for whole class rewards
Making Poor Choices
When students make poor choices the consequences will be as follows:
Verbal warning 2% clip board (grade is lowered 2%)
Making Better Choices Slip (grade is lowered additional 3%)
Phone Call Home (grade is lowered additional 5%) Office Referral (grade is automatically lowered to a
60%)
Field Trips
The 3rd grade team is currently planning an educational and exciting field trip that will be enjoyable for the students.
Native American Walk Through
SCRIP for Trips Participating families purchase gift cards through
www.shopwithscrip.com and profits are recorded in a family “account” for use for reimbursement when you wish to apply the funds to student travel.
Different giftcards give you different percentages back to your student’s travel account.
Parent Volunteers
There is a list for volunteers in the back of the classroom
If you are interested in being the University Parent or Art Volunteer, please put your name on the interest list in the back of the room

Parent Volunteer Meetings
Please make sure you attend a yearly volunteer meeting. Haven’t attended one yet this year? You’re in luck! The next meeting is tomorrow morning at 8:30am in Honour Hall!

Volunteers Needed Schoolwide
Recess Volunteers Organizing Multiple Intelligence Activities during
recess and lunch recess.
Game Room Help out with Champions in the game room. Playing Ping Pong with our Champions.
Short Term Independent Study
Offered if your child is going to be absent for a short amount of time (i.e.: family events, doctor’s appointments, etc.)
Can complete THREE times a year (total of 20 days)
Please notify the office if your Champion will be absent.
Birthday Celebrations
We love birthdays at OPA! I promise to make your champion feel special on
their birthday! Please respect our birthday policy by not bringing in food or goodie bags.
Suggestions: Bring your child a special lunch or take them out to
lunch! Donate a book to our classroom library!
Traffic Reminders
Great job so far! Traffic has been flowing great.
I will be walking students to the front so please wait at the front or by the lunch tables.
There is no parking on Fridays in front of the school (on C Street).
