+Why I Chose This Painting

This painting immediately caught my eye when I was browsing through the artwork. I like the bright red, green, and blue colors. In addition, I love to eat watermelon and it reminds me of bright summer days. I also love that the piece is entitled “Viva la vida,” which means “live life” in Spanish. That is a motto that I try to live my life by.

+Portrait of a Lady in Blue

Era of Post-Impressionism

+Why I Chose This Painting

As soon as I saw this painting, it immediately reminded me of the cover of a book I had read a few months, ago, The Hidden Staircase. This painting struck me as looking extremely similar to the original covers of the Nancy Drew books. The dark colors and small brushstrokes are shown in both. The intriguing woman in Raimundo de Madrazo’s painting is mysterious and appears to be pressing her ear against the wall, possibly to hear a conversation in another room. The lady seems like she would be the “Nancy Drew” of her day and age, and it makes me want to know more about her and what’s going on in her life outside of the painting.

+Why I Chose This Painting

I liked the look of this painting with its bright colors and intricate details. It also made me why this balloon was being launched or where it was going. The main reason that I found interest in this painting is that I have always wanted to take a ride in a hot air balloon.
