As school council members, you have an important role to play in supporting the School Success Plan at your school.

By planning ahead and setting well-developed goals and objectives, you will be able to:◦ focus council activities on issues that are

important to student success at your school and in your community

◦get the best results from your efforts if you have a clear idea of what you want

◦ to achieve and a plan to help you get there.

Schedule a planning meeting and invite all school council members to attend.

Ask your principal to present the School Success Plan and discuss it with council members.

Once you know your school priorities for the year ahead, you can set goals and plan activities that will support student success.

Ask yourselves the following questions:

◦Where are we now?

◦Where do we want to be?

You only need a few goals to be effective. If you have too many, you may find that you don’t have the resources to reach your targets.

You should choose goals that solve a problem, fulfill a need or take advantage of a good opportunity.
