Why don't identical twins have identical fingerprints?

Done byNechaeva Nastya.

The experiment is aimed at testing the following hypothesis:

No two people in this world have identical fingerprints, not even identical twins.

a fingerprint [ˈfɪŋɡəprɪnt]– отпечатки пальцев

To prove my hypothesis I made some research:

I studied appropriate information. I organized own experiment.

Because the physical appearance of twins are the same, you might expect that his fingerprints identical too. But it is not so.

Each one of us started out as a fertilized egg. Normally people carry two copies of every gene, one inherited from each parent. In the case of identical twins, two people arise from the same egg.

fertilized [ˈfə:tɪlaɪzd] egg – оплодотворенная яйцеклеткаto inherit [ɪnˈherɪt] - наследовать

They often have nearly the same height, weight and hair color. But look closer, and you’ll find differences in twins.

random [ˈrændəm]–случайный, fetal [ˈfi:tl]-эмбриональныйa pattern[ˈpætən] – структура

Minor differences in fingerprints arise from random local events during fetal development. The genes determine the general characteristics of the patterns of fingerprints.

Own experiment

Among my friends there are twins. These are sisters Kate and Dasha Mochalkin.

I removed their fingerprints. And I detected that it is absolutely different.

My hypothesis was proved

No two people in this world have identical fingerprints, not even identical twins.
