FIRST READING

R: The first reading for Harvest Thanksgiving Day is written in Chapter twenty six of Deuteronomy beginning at verse one.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 CEV First fruits presented to the Lord

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 Moses said to Israel• The LORD is giving you the land, and

soon you will conquer it, settle down, 2and plant crops.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 And when you begin harvesting each of

your crops, the very first things you pick must be put in a basket. Take them to the place where the LORD your God chooses to be worshiped, 3and tell the priest,

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 "Long ago the LORD our God promised

our ancestors that he would give us this land. And today, I thank him for keeping his promise and giving me a share of the land."

4The priest will take the basket and set it in front of the LORD'S altar.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 5Then, standing there in front of the

place of worship, you must pray: My ancestor was homeless, an Aramean who went to live in Egypt. There were only a few in his family then, but they became great and powerful, a nation of many people.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 6The Egyptians were cruel and had no

pity on us. They mistreated our people and forced us into slavery. 7We called out for help to you, the LORD God of our ancestors. You heard our cries; you knew we were in trouble and abused.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 8Then you terrified the Egyptians with

your mighty miracles and rescued us from Egypt. 9You brought us here and gave us this land rich with milk and honey. 10Now, LORD, I bring to you the best of the crops that you have given me.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 After you say these things, place the

basket in front of the LORD'S altar and bow down to worship him. 11Then you and your family must celebrate by eating a meal at the place of worship to thank the LORD your God for giving you such a good harvest.

Deuteronomy 26:1-11 And remember to invite the Levites and

the foreigners who live in your town. This is the Word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to God.

Psalm 100 CEV

R: The Psalm is Psalm 1001Shout praises to the LORD, everyone

on this earth. C: 2Be joyful and sing as you come

in to worship the LORD!

Psalm 100 CEV

R: 3You know the LORD is God! He created us, and we belong to him; We are his people, the sheep in his

pasture. C: 4Be thankful and praise the

LORD as you enter his temple.

Psalm 100 CEV

R: 5The LORD is good! His love and faithfulness will last

forever.C: Glory to the Father, and the Son,

and the Holy SpiritAs it was in the beginning is now

and will be forever. Amen.

SECOND READINGR: The second reading is written in

Chapter four of Philippians beginning at verse four.

Philippians 4:4-9 CEV Rejoice in the Lord always

Philippians 4:4-9 4Always be glad because of the Lord! I will say it again: Be glad 5Always be gentle with others. The Lord will soon be here. 6Don't worry about anything, but pray

about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God.

Philippians 4:4-9 7Then, because you belong to Christ

Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

Philippians 4:4-9 8Finally, my friends, keep your minds on

whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:4-9 9You know the teachings I gave you,

and you know what you heard me say and saw me do. So follow my example. And God, who gives peace, will be with you.

This is the Word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL

M: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter six of the Gospel according to St. John beginning at verse twenty five.

C: Glory be to You O Lord.

John 6:25-35 CEV The food that lasts

John 6:25-35

25They found him on the west side of the lake and asked, "Rabbi, when did you get here?”

John 6:25-35

26Jesus answered, "I tell you for certain that you are not looking for me because you saw the miracles, but because you ate all the food you wanted. 27Don't work for food that spoils. Work for food that gives eternal life. The Son of Man will give you this food, because God the Father has given him the right to do so.”

John 6:25-35

28"What exactly does God want us to do?" the people asked.

29Jesus answered, "God wants you to have faith in the one he sent.“

John 6:25-35

30They replied, "What miracle will you work, so that we can have faith in you? What will you do? 31For example, when our ancestors were in the desert, they were given manna to eat. It happened just as the Scriptures say, 'God gave them bread from heaven to eat.' “

John 6:25-35

32Jesus then told them, "I tell you for certain that Moses wasn't the one who gave you bread from heaven. My Father is the one who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33And the bread that God gives is the one who came down from heaven to give life to the world.“

John 6:25-35

34The people said, "Lord, give us this bread and don't ever stop!"

35Jesus replied:I am the bread that gives life! No one

who comes to me will ever be hungry. No one who has faith in me will ever be thirsty.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.C: Praise be to You O Christ. •  •
