Page 2: Welcome to Trinity Mount Barker

Thanks for your interest in Trinity Mount Barker. This new church is a community of people, probably very much like yourself. Around here you’ll find babies, parents, children, teenagers, retirees, workers, young adults, singles, marrieds, and everyone else in between!

What all these people have in common, and what we invite you to explore with us, is the firm conviction that God has made himself known in the person of Jesus Christ, and that he draws people to himself as the good news of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection are proclaimed.

Whatever it is that’s brought you to Trinity Mount Barker, whether you’re curious about the Bible and the Christian faith, visiting from another church, passing through town, or invited along by a friend, we hope you might find your time with us encouraging and helpful.

We’re always encouraged when we have visitors among us. Please make yourself known to us if you’re visiting a Sunday service. On any Sunday that you come along, you’ll hear about Jesus, the great lengths God went to so that we could know him, and you’ll have an opportunity to respond to this great love.

Our hope is that Trinity Mount Barker will be a community in which people can hear and understand the good news of Jesus and explore the Christian faith. If you’re not already part of a church where you’re hearing about Jesus and encouraged to serve him, why not consider making Trinity Mount Barker your home?

If you’ve got any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us.

Clayton Fopp

Senior Pastor

Welcome

Trinity Mount Barker upholds the fundamental truths of Christianity as contained in the Bible and the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion of the An-glican Church of Australia, including the following:

- the divine inspiration and infallibility of the Holy Scripture as originally given and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct;- the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead;- the universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the fall rendering man subject to God’s wrath and condemnation- the conception of Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and his birth of the Virgin Mary;- redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death, as our representative and substitute, of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God;- the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead;- that Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of God and is now the all-sufficient High Priest of His People;- the necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Jesus Christ effective in the individual sinner, granting him repentance towards God and faith in Jesus Christ;- the indwelling and working of the Holy Spirit in the believer, and;- the expectation of the personal return of Jesus Christ who shall reign forever.

Children’s Ministry

Page 5: Welcome to Trinity Mount Barker

Children are a valued part of our community at Trinity Mount Barker and as such, we have a number of programs on Sundays to help them learn about Jesus and grow in their understanding of him.

Crèche is for babies through to toddlers up to 3 years of age. Children will be cared for and entertained so that their parents can take part in the Sunday service without distraction! Crèche runs in the “Molly Miels” building which opens off the covered area near the gymnasium. Crèche starts at the beginning of the service, so you can take your creche-aged children to creche when you arrive on Sunday mornings.

Minis is a special kids’ program for children from 3 years until the end of their first year in school (usually the end of reception). Minis runs from the start of the Sunday service, so children can be signed in to Minis when you arrive on Sundays. Minis is an age-appropriate learning program filled with fun, music, craft and Bible teaching.

Kids’ Church is for children in reception through grade 6 at school. Each Sunday morning, Kids’ Church members will start their time in the church gathering with their parents/care-givers. They will be be invited to leave for Kids’ Church at the appropriate time in the gathering - usually about 10:15 AM.

If you’re visiting Trinity Mount Barker, please feel free to stay with your child in their program as long as it takes for them to settle in and become comfortable. You will also be asked to complete a Registration Card to let the leaders know of an allergies or special needs your child may have.

All Trinity Mount Barker Children’s Ministry volunteers are appointed in acccordance with the protocols of ChildSafe, our child safety program. This includes consultation with referees and submission of a National Police Certificate.

Please don’t hestitate to speak with one of the Children’s Ministry leaders if you have any questions, or contact us by phone: 8398 2827 or email: [email protected]

Trinity Mount Barker has both a youth and young adults discipleship

group, intended to help young people learn about the Christian faith and how to live it out. Our aim is also

to provide fun, safe environments in which youth and young adults can

be cared for and develop strong and meaningful relationships.

At Trinity Mount Barker, the Bible is central to all we do. We believe it is through the Scriptures that God speaks to us today, as he has to every generation of the church.

In addition to having the Bible read and explained on Sundays, we encourage everyone in the Trinity community to be part of a Bible Study Group.

We have a network of groups across the Mount Barker region, including gruops in Woodside, Littlehampton, Mount Barker, Hahndorf and Strathalbyn.

Most of these groups meet weekly, although some meet fortnightly. The usual pattern for Bible Study Groups is to use the study guides prepared in parallel with the Sunday teaching series. Most groups try and look at each passage or topic in the week prior to the Sunday on which it will be taught.

Before joining a regular Bible Study Group, we encourage people to sign up for God, Church & Me. God, Church & Me is our new members’ Bible study and discussion group. It runs over four sessions, usually one weeknight over four successive weeks.

God, Church & Me will enable you to see how what we learn in the Bible shapes the way we do things at Trinity and will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions you have about our church.

For more information about Bible study groups, please call the Trinity Mount Barker office on 8398 2827 or email:

Bible Study Groups

It’s been said that starting a new church is like getting a group of people in a row boat and heading for a particular island. As long as everyone has the same vision for where the expedition should be going, things can work well. But if one of the rowers thinks they should be heading for a different island or for no island at all, then everyone gets tired and frustrated and no one arrives at their intended destination.

God, Church & Me, our new members Bible study and discussion group, is an opportunity for us to make sure we’re all heading for the same island!

The course runs over 4 sessions, examining some of what the Bible says about four key themes: God & Us, Scripture & Prayer, Growing & Giving and Church & Leadership. We believe that God speaks very clearly on these themes in the Bible, not just in abstract terms, but in ways that can (and should) shape our lives and our life together.

Each session moves from examining those themes in the Scriptures to a discussion of how life and ministry at Trinity Mount Barker are shaped by God’s Word; Why our services are structured the way they are, how our leadership works, how finances are handled, who to speak to if you want to get involved in a particular ministry, etc.

God, Church & Me is also part of the leadership training for leaders of all ministry areas at Trinity Mount Barker.

If you’re thinking that Trinity Mount Barker is going to be your church home, we’d love you to join us at God, Church & Me.

Holy Trinity Church was established in 1836 as the Pioneer Church for the new colony of South Australia and is closely associated with the early history of the state.

The Revd Charles Howard, an Irishman from the Diocese of Chester, travelled to South Australia on HMS Buffalo and commenced duties as the first Anglican minister. Since that time, Holy Trinity Church has continued to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, on the historic city site and in more recent years also through the Trinity Network of Churches.

Trinity City, as the state’s oldest church is now often called, has five services each Sunday, including one in the former cinema adjacent to the church site.

Trinity Hills was established in 2001 as a “church plant” from Trinity City. Trinity Hills now has two congregations meeting each Sunday at 10 AM and 5 PM.

Trinity Bay was established at Hove in 2006. Again, the founding members were primarily from Trinity City. Trinity Bay’ Sunday service is at 10 AM.

Trinity North East was launched in February 2010. This church was founded predominantly by people from Trinity City who live in the North Eastern Suburbs. Trinity North East meets for Sunday services in the Modbury North Primary School at 10 AM.

Trinity Mount Barker was launched on February 28th 2010 as a church plant from Trinity Hills.

Our goal, under God, is to be a network of churches that plant churches, to bring glory to God, so that people might come to know Christ and grow as mature disciples.

The Trinity Network

We have the great privilege of partnering with Nigel, Rose, Lucy and Sarah Klein, who are serving with the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in Murgwanza, Tanzania. Nigel is working as a medical educator and Rose as an emergency physcian.

The Klein family were commissioned for ministry in Tanzania at the beginning of 2010, just as Trinity Mount Barker was commencing.

They write: “We feel passionately that God has called us as a family to Murgwanza. Along with modeling Christ’s love through our family relationships, we hope to witness and encourage our neighbours in faith and work with the African Church in discipling local Christians. Lucy and Sarah will be doing the same through the friendships they make in the community.”

Nigel, Rose, Lucy and Sarah sent the following message to Trinity Mount Barker for our launch on February 28th 2010:

We pray that God will continue to go ahead of you, preparing the work and people, as you minister. Just as we have had times that have been difficult, we are sure that you will be challenged in the weeks ahead - but we pray that the electricity stays on for you! God has used the challenges to strengthen us and to remind us that our reliance is on him alone and his grace through the Gospel of Christ - may it be the same for you.
