Pepps Motheong Online Lesson Plan
Grade: 1
Subject: Afrikaans FAL
Topic: Colours/ Kleure
Duration: As much as possible verbal practice (the more time spend practicing the better)
Success Criteria:
o Learners should know the Afrikaans words for the different colours. o If colour name is said they should be able to take that specific colour crayon or pencil and
then follow the instructions.
Teacher input into the lesson:
1. Please download the PowerPoint and worksheet from D6.
2. 1st only use the PowerPoint while teaching your child. 3. Each slide has a speaker sign – just go over it with the arrow and press play (audio with
translation will then start). 4. When you do this the first time let your child listen carefully to the translation words. 5. The other times let your child repeat the word verbally out load as much as possible. 6. If you feel your child is confident with the colour names – test them with the following
game: • Give your child a pack of colouring pencils or colour paper. • Now say the Afrikaans colour name out load to your child and then they should
show you the colour pencil or colour paper that they think fits with the name you said out load.
✓If they are right – you can award them if you want to. ✓If they are wrong – help them by telling them the name of the colour that
they showed you. Then say the original word again and show them the correct one.
• Please do this a few times over and over again even with the colours they already know.
• The more practice the better. 7. If after the test you feel more confident that your child knows the colours then he/she can
complete the worksheet. They can do the colouring of the blocks on their own but they are allowed to use the PowerPoint to write the Afrikaans (black word) colour name next to the block they have coloured.
Learner Activity:
If you can’t print the worksheet you can let your child re-draw the worksheet on a paper or in a book and then let them do it.
Plenary Activity:
Do the test game with them as explained at the top (number 6).
Homework:
Practice, practice, practice! (Verbal practice as much as possible)
