“My library colleagues emphasise during induction or other library resource related skill sessions that the off-campus access experience is different to what it might be on-campus. What often trips up a novice user is the’ login language’ a publisher might use on their sites so we emphasise to look out for ‘login via your institution’; ‘UK Federation’ ; ‘shibboleth’ etc.

“We encourage our users to access library resources via our web pages or the VLE, where we create the best possible access routes (eg WAYFless urls when possible) – our Reading List application also provides best possible access routes. We also have a discovery product which helps to ensure the access is as good as it can be. This works well for the majority of users.

“We also have a nice video available on our web pages which helps get the message across. This page also includes other useful info, including a handy pdf guide, to guide the student.”
