The Worst of a Hurricane

Hurricane Katrina had caused numerous destruction to New Orleans in August of 05’. It caused over $80 billion in damage. There were many who died, had missing loved ones, and no where to live. The talk about Hurricane Katrina was crazy. I remember back in 4th grade when students at school were donating money and canned foods. In my opinion, hurricanes are the worst natural disaster.

Firstly, it’s wind speeds are destructive. Even tropical storm winds can be dangerous to ones outside or in vehicle. Hurricane winds can easily destroy poorly constructed buildings and mobile homes. Flying debris can damage automobiles and windows of homes.

Secondly, it causes horrible floods/storm surges. Though hurricanes only occur around coastal areas, it can flood miles and miles across. Most people in this natural disaster die because of storm surges. Storm surges can reach 30 ft. high. They’re the most devastating element of a hurricane.

Some people might say hurricanes aren’t the worst because it can be predicted and you’ll have time to escape before it happens. However, there’s many reasoning why people won’t be able to. Some might’ve not heard the warning, don’t have a vehicle, or the money to fly to another state to be safer.

All in all, I believe hurricanes are the worst natural disaster. The reasons are because of the destructive wind speed and horrible flooding/storm surges. If you live on the coast, be on the look out for this outrageous inhuman thing!
