Mary Ann Weston Maughan was the first white female settler in Cache Valley. She helped found the town of Wellsville, and was a practicing midwife for much of her life. She was born in England in 1817.

James G. Willie served as a guide for other pioneers coming across the Plains. Willie also helped to settle the town of Mendon, Utah and served as the town’s mayor. He was born in England in 1814.

Sarah Walker Eddy was a Methodist missionary, a supporter of women’s education and founder of the Cache Valley branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. She was born in Ohio.

Peter Maughan was one of the first settlers of Cache Valley and helped found Maughan’s Fort, which became the town of Wellsville. He served as a judge and a member of the territorial legislature. He was born in England in 1811.

David Eccles helped develop the railroad and other Utah industries. Eccles was one of the first millionaires in Utah and the first multimillionaire in the state. He was born in Scotland in 1849.
