July 12, 2021 Meeting

President Kathleen started the meeting

at 12:15 pm. by presenting the “Serve to

Change Lives” banner given to the club

by District Governor Anita Daniels.

Don Daniels led the pledge and Pres

Kathleen shared a Thought for the Day

by Socrates. Birthdays and Anniversaries

for July were acknowledged followed by the introduction of

our guests.

The room at the Wild Eye Pub was packed with returning

members and guests, about 15 guests total. By the end of the

meeting it was confirmed that one of the guests has commit-

ted to becoming a member!

The Rotary calendar was reviewed (see Dates to Remember on

the right) with special attention to the Social event scheduled

for August 28 at Condon Park. Hors d’oeuvres are included for

the $10 admission price. It is suggested you BYO beverage and

chairs, though wine will be available for purchase.

President Kathleen shared a 15 second Rotary image builder…

It’s simple! Wear your pin! It’s the lowest cost

advertising for the club

Announcements and Confessions:

Past President Seth Leishman was happy to confess he is

no longer our club’s president. Surprisingly, he was not

made a bell ringer for that announcement.

Kelly Quinn was pleased to announce he has sold his

business and as of two weeks ago, he is retired! Two years

ago, Kelly made the same announcement and Ken

Holbrooke bet him a nickel that it wouldn’t last. Kelly

turned over a nickel to Ken which he has kept in his wallet

for these many years. Today, Ken was pleased to give the

nickel back to Kelly. Enjoy your retirement!

Rod Fivelstad touted the benefits of the Rotary Interna-

tional Convention which is June 4-8, 2022 in Houston, TX.

Rod and Susan are big fans of the convention and encour-

aged us all to attend

Eric Trygg and Ken Holbrooke have

transferred their Rotary membership to

the Penn Valley club

Speaker: Carol Scofield

Carol is a motivational speaker and her pas-

sion is service! In the 1990’s Carol met Dr.

Stephen Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Peo-

ple. She was very taken with his message and became certi-

fied to facilitate his seminars. During this time Carol devel-

oped a personal mission statement: to live, to love, to learn,

and to leave a legacy.

Some of the take-away’s from Carol’s presentation:

If the curtain were to fall tonight, would I win the Academy

Award? What are we waiting for?

In 2022-2023, Jennifer Jones will be the first female Rotary

International President. She encourages us all to practice

“Random acts of Rotary”

Make a commitment to be KIND

We are life farmers and the gift of life mandates that we

leave the land better than we found it.

This is our year to shine—to live, love,

learn, and leave a legacy.

Rod Fivelstad held the lucky ticket but

pulled a white marble. The meeting ended

at 1:15 with Pamela Mirkin leading the 4-

Way Test.
