In October 2015, thousands of women and men will Walk an overnight marathon through the streets of New York City, wearing decorated bras, in support of breast cancer initiatives. This highly visible and valuable annual event, known around the world as The MoonWalk, is the signature fundraising platform of the globally recognized charity, supported by over 437,000 participants, Walk the Walk Worldwide.
One night in 1996, Nina Barough had a
dream about Walking the New York City
Marathon in a decorated bra to raise money
for breast cancer initiatives. At the time,
Nina’s life was untouched by breast cancer
but months after she completed that first
marathon walk in her decorated bra, she was
diagnosed with an aggressive breast
cancer. The success of her first walk marked
the humble beginning of Walk the Walk, a
multi-million dollar charity, and it’s very own
challenge, The MoonWalk.
The MoonWalk aims to raise money so
anyone with breast cancer can receive the
care they need, regardless of financial
restrictions. For the past two years, Walk the
Walk America has made a grant to Memorial
Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in support of
their Breast Examination Center of Harlem.
