INTRODUCTION

Pests can pose serious problem for food

establishment.

It can also damage food, supplies and facilities

 Ability to spread disease, including foodborneillness.

Examples:

Cockroaches

Flies Insects (beetles, ants, termite, spider, bees)

Rodent

Birds

IPM has 3 basic rules:

i. Deny pest access to the establishment

ii. Deny pest food, water and a hiding or nesting placeiii. Work with licensed PCO to eliminate pest that do

1. Deny pest access to the establishment

Deliveries

To prevent pest from entering the establishment:

- use reputable supplier- check all deliveries before they enter the establishment

Door, windows and vents

Screen all windows and vent

Install self closing device & door sweep

Install air curtain above or alongside door

Keep all exterior opening closed tightly

Pipes

Use concrete to fill holes or sheet metal to cover

openings around pipes

Install screen over ventilation pipes and ducts on the

roof 

Cover floor drains with hinged grates to keep rodent

Floor & walls

Seal all cracks in floor and walls Properly sealed space or cracks where stationary

equipment is fitted to the floor.

2. Deny pest food & shelter

Dispose of garbage quickly and correctly

Store recyclables in clean, pest proof 

containers as far from your building aslocal regulations allow

Store all food and supplies properly and as

quickly as possible.

Combination of chemical and nonchemical treatment.

ii. Stay up to date on new equipment and products

iii. Provide prompt service to address problems

iv. Keep records the document all steps taken to prevent andcontrol pest.

How to choose a PCO?

y Talk to other managers

y Make sure the PCO is licensed or certified by your

state, as require by federal law

y  Ask the PCO if they belongs to any professional

organization.

y  Ask for proof of insurance

y Weigh all factors, not just price

Service contract

y Require written service contract

y Outline the work to be performed
