What happened in the town of Erath, Louisiana in 1964?

The most horrible moment in Erath, Louisiana was when “Hurricane Hilda” visited the small town on October 3, 1964. A twister caused the water tower to collapse and kill 8 men. Go to the next slide and listen to the story.

This is the Water Tower and City Hall in 1962.

In 1964, the water tower collapsed on the City Hall and the fire department.

This was a horrible accident in Erath.

It crushed the City Hall and Fire Department.

It killed eight Erath men.

One man survived. His name is Martial Broussard.

They built a new Fire Department in 1965.
