Introduction to BSNL

• On October 1, 2000 the Department of Telecom Operations, Government of India became a corporation and was established Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

• It has latest digital switching technology like OCB,EWSD,AXE-10,FETEX,NEC etc. for faster and better connectivity.

Introduction to BSNL

BSNL financial figures withaverage growth rate = 20%

Introduction to BSNL

Main locations of BSNL in Rajasthan

Services Offered by BSNL

• Basic Telephone Services• Internet• ISDN• Leased Lines• Cellular Mobile Service• Wireless in Local Loop• IPTV• 3G• CDMA/GSM

Exchange

• Manual Exchange

• Automatic Exchange

• Electronic Exchange

Facilities and services

• Call forwarding (follow me service)• Last number redial• Short code dialing (abbreviated dialing)• Call waiting indication (tone on busy)• Detailed (itemized) billing

OCB-283 Exchange

• The first OCB-283 exchanges of R-11 version were commissioned in Brest (France) and Beijing (China) in 1991.

• The first OCB-283 exchange came into India in 1993.

ALCATEL 1000 E10 (OCB283) MULTIPURPOSE EXCHANGE• The application for which it is intended (local

switching centre, international switching centre, etc.),

• The environment (urban area, rural area), • The volume and type of the traffic to be handled, • The resources of the telecommunications network

to which it is connected, • The broadband service. • The Alcatel 1000 E10 (OCB283) in the

telecommunications network

THE OCB CAN BE USED FOR FOLLOWING APPLICATIONS1.local switching centre, 2.regional or national transit centre, 3.international transit centre, 4.intelligent network service access point, 5.mobile service access point.

OCB IN TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORKS

CONNECTIVITY OF OCB

• connect digital as well as analogue subscribers, • optimize the use of access equipment according to

the dispersion of the subscribers, using a subscriber line

• concentration architecture with two levels of concentration,

• connect access networks through V5.1 or V5.2 interfaces.

• connect primary rate access ports directly to the exchange,

• manage private subscriber lines (centrex function).

CONNECTING SUBSCRIBERS TO OCB

THE CSN CAN BE USED TO CONNECT:• analogue subscribers with rotary dial sets, • analogue subscribers with pushbutton

DTMF sets, • V5.1 & V5.2 INTERFACE• The access networks are connected to the

exchange via 2048 kbps PCM links

TRANSIT POINT

• Channel associated signalling: The signalling is associated with the flow of user information. Channel associated signalling uses a reserved time slot of the PCM link used.

• Common channel signalling : The signalling is dissociated from the flow of user information. Common channel signalling can use a separate network specially for transporting signalling.

INTELLIGENT NETWORK SERVICE ACCESS POINT• CENTRALISED SERVICE DATA• CENTRALISE SERVICE IN SERVERS• COMMUNICATES WITH THE SERVER

VIA STANDARD INTERFACE• TO INTERCHANGE SERVICE

COMMAND• EASY TO INTRODUCE NEW

SERVICES

SERVICE PROVIDE BY IN

• Payment by card. Payment is made by prepaid card or credit card.

• Free call. The call is free to the calling subscriber and billed to the called subscriber.

• Universal number. A single number can be used to contact different branches of a company depending on where the call comes from.

• Universal personal number. A subscriber can be reached via a single number wherever he or she is .

• The virtual private network. This provides a way of setting up a private dialling plan or abbreviated dialling between private exchanges and individual lines.

INTELLIGENCE NETWORK

CONNECTION OF MOBILE SUBSCRIBER

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

• Ease of adaptation: The number of different modules can be tailored to the functions the exchange performs as well as the volume and characteristics of the traffic handled.

• Reliability: Newly developed modules are tested independently.

• Dependability: The principle of redundancy is applied to each type of system component. Redundancy ensures continuity of service if a unit fails.

• Easy upgrades: It is easy to add new modules to cater for technological changes or upgrades.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

• The Alcatel 1000 E10 (OCB283) is organised using one of the following configurations:

• an RCX (narrrowband switching network) with SMC-type main control stations,

• an RCH (high rate switching network) with SMC-type main control stations,

• an RCH with SMB_C-type main control stations. • Configurations using RCH allow broadband ports to be connected to

the switching network.• The E10 (OCB283) consists mainly of:• control stations, • software machines, • a communication local area network.

OCB WITH AN RCX

OCB WITH AN RCH & SMC

CONTROL STATIONS

• SMTs (trunk control stations), connecting the PCM links, • SMAs (auxiliary equipment control stations), supporting the auxiliary

functions, • SMXs (matrix control stations), which comprise the switching network

for an RCX-type network, • SCHs (high rate matrix control stations), which comprise the switching

network for an RCH-type network, • SMM (maintenance control station) for operating and maintaining the

system. • The switching functions (translation, charging etc.) are supported by:• SMCs (main control stations) or,• SMB_Cs (main general purpose control stations), only with an RCH.

CONTROL STATION

STRUCTURE OF CONTROL STATIONS• PROCESSOR UNITS• MAIN COUPLER• ETHERNET COUPLER• SECONDARY MULTIPLEX COUPLER• DEDICATED COUPLER• BUS

BLOCK DIGRAM OF CONTROL STATION

RCX-SPECIFIC SWITCHING MATRIX

RCX-SPECIFIC SWITCHING MATRIX• MATRIX LINKS• LINK OF 32 TIME DIVISION MULTIPLEXER• 16 BIT PER 125 MICROSECOND FRAME• BRANCH SELECTION & AMPLIFICATION• Amplify the LRs, outgoing and incoming, • Receive the timing signals from the switching matrix

branches and distribute them in the connection unit, • Select the active branch, call by call- For a given call,

the active branch is selected by comparing, bit for bit, the time-division multiplex channels from the two branches of the switching matrix and by processing the control bits.

RCX

• there is no blocking, • call setup times are short, • cross-exchange time is the same for all

connections. • Each connection uses a single time switch• Matrix control station

An SMX comprises the basic SM equipment plus:• a control interface, • the matrix link interfaces, • the equipment for setting up the RCX.

RCH-SPECIFIC SWITCHING MATRIX

CONTROL STATION SOFTWARE• System software, • Application software.

FUNCTIONAL SOFTWARE MACHINE

ALARM MULTIPLEX & MARSHALLING

DEPENDABILITY

• DEFENCE PRINCIPLE• redundancy of the system's components, • automatic fault detection, • containment of failures, • automatic reconfiguration of resources.

OPERATION & MAINTENANCE

• The operator has the following types of terminal:• command input and message display consoles, • PC workstations, • workstations (for remote operation and

maintenance), • printers, • teleprinters.

OPERATION

• TELEPHONE ENVIRONMENT• TRANSLATION• CHARGING• INTELLIGENT NETWORK ACCESS• MOBILE ACCESS

MAINTENENCE

• AUTOMATIC FAULT DETECTION TEST

• VERIFICATION TEST AFTER REPAIRS• OPERATING TEST• CIRCUIT TEST• ANALOGUE SUBSCRIBER

TELEPHONE TEST

MAINTENANCE CONTROL STATION

• system management (administration, configuration, initialisation),

• operating the exchange, • supervising the system and its environment

(defence, alarms), • maintaining the equipment (tests, settings), • archiving data.
