About TTA

Tohoku Takunka Academy (TTA) is based in

Sendai, reknown as an academic city, where the

beauty of nature and city functions come together.

TTA was launched in April of 2010 with the aim of

promoting widespread multicultural exchange

through the reception and support of foreign

students. The members of the board as well as the

director of our foundation are all teachers at

Sendai's universities.

Our basic mission includes globally transmitting

information of schools in the Tohoku area

(especially the academic city of Sendai), as well as

receiving and supporting foreign students at the

post-graduate level. We also engage in promoting

cooperation between overseas and domestic

academic institutions, and in supporting high-level

overseas students with recruitment, entry to Japan,

Japanese language education (at the technical

level), admissions, and job-hunting.

The TTA short-term study abroad program has been

held since 2010, and every year many students

participate from all over the world. At the TTA

short-term study abroad program, not only will you

learn the Japanese language, you will actually

experience Japan's traditional culture for yourself.

You can also acquire detailed information about

Japan's universities through visits to university

research facilities and exchange with Japanese

students.

This year's TTA short-term study abroad program

will take place in the two weeks between July 28th-

August 10th 2013. Students approved by Tohoku

University may participate as Tohoku University

special visiting trainees .

We hope to see you soon!

Tohoku University was founded in Sendai in 1907 as

the third imperial university after Tokyo Imperial

University and Kyoto Imperial University. Bearing

the founding ideals of “research first” and “open doors,

the university continues to meet the highest standards

in research and education.

In 2002 an alumni of Tohoku University School of

Engineering, Mr. Tanaka Koichi, received the Nobel

Prize. The university also engages in world-class

research in the fields of materials science and physics.

Our short-term program includes participation in the

Tohoku University Open Campus. Visits to research

facilities, as well as exchange with other students,

are also planned.

Learn how to dress yourself in a Yukata (in the summer)

or kimono (in the winter). The final touches will be done

by the instructor. Explanations will be given regarding

the basic terms and instruments of a tea ceremony.

After eating Japanese sweets and drinking Japanese

powdered tea, you will be given a chance to try and make

tea for themselves under the supervision of the instructor.
