THIRD WEEK OF LENT
ENCOUNTER SAFIATA
In Burkina Faso, we encounter
Safiata, a mother, grandmother

worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or
be%er opportuni"es? Visit www.crsricebowl.org for more.
Pray that we do not ignore the cries for help from the unborn and their mothers and fathers.
The Coalition for Life of Iowa is looking for people to commit to pray in front of Planned Parenthood for 40 Days for Life campaign. Sign up for an hour any day or night! The campaign draws attention to the evil of abortion through prayer, fasting, peaceful vigil, and
community outreach. For additional info:

Welcome Nancy Rousch—who joined our staff this week as the Business and Ministry Assistant. Nancy
will be working with Business Manager, Doug Brock, as well as caring for the scheduling of liturgical
ministers and other related ma"ers. We are glad that Nancy is with us. Please welcome her to the staff.
Lenten Opportunities—As a community, we have two:
1. I asked the Pastoral Council during its February meeting to offer to the parish a practical Lenten activity. Enclosed in the
bulletin you will find a list of invitations to make to people you know. Chose one person and invite them to join with you in
a"ending or doing one thing found on the list. The purpose is to invite someone to “Come and see,” as Jesus said in St. John’s
gospel. It is a way of evangelizing, bringing someone to Christ and hopefully faith in him. Invitations could also be extended to
people who have fallen away from the faith, those we see here infrequently, or to others who are here but might need a nudge in
their faith. Look for the invitation opportunities in this weekend’s bulletin.
2. As introduced on Ash Wednesday, Operation Rice Bowl is in full effect at St. Joseph. Sponsored by Catholic Relief Services,
the donations collected through the rice bowls will help those who are most in need. To pick-up your rice bowl, please stop by
any entryway of the church.
