Description: Technetium-99m radiopharmaceuticals account for nearly 80 per cent of all diagnostic studies done in nuclear medicine. The ability to
determine the exact molecular structure of the coordination compounds by using modern powerful analytical tools such as NMR, mass spectroscopy
and X ray diffraction has contributed to the understanding of the structure-activity relationships underlying the biological behaviour of Tc-99m
agents.Consequently, careful design of new ligands and their Tc-99m complexes led to the discovery of imaging agents for perfusion in the
myocardium and brain, thereby extending the scope of diagnostic imaging using Tc-99m radiopharmaceuticals. Based on the new developments in Tc
chemistry, there is good scope for the development of new radiopharmaceuticals for imaging cancer as well as certain specific disease conditions. The
IAEA organized a Coordinated Research Project (CRP) with the specific objective to develop labelled biomolecules with the novel Tc-99m metal cores

Description: Completely updated with the latest advances in imaging technology, this quick-reference manual is the only procedures guide specifically
geared to nuclear medicine technologists. It provides detailed, easy-to-follow instructions for 61 scan procedures, including listings of possible artifacts
and problems that may arise during each scan. An extensive quick-reference section includes conversion tables, radiopharmaceutical dose ranges,
pediatric dosing, anatomical drawings, standard drug interventions, lab tests, language translations, thyroid therapy information, and reproducible
patient history sheets for 20 scans. Review: NMT Program Manager , Larry Gibson -- "It is an awesome book which I have highly recommend to my students, and plan to make a
required text next Fall Term. I appreciate your dedication and contribution to the field of Nuclear Medicine." Program Director and Chief Instructor,
Nuclear Medicine Program, Methodist University Hospital Schools of Radiologic and Imaging Sciences, Nancy Clifton, RT, CNMT -- "As you can
imagine I get a fair amount of calls from alumni, peers, etc. wanting to know what is the 'latest and greatest' book they should have in their
departments. Hands down I will be recommending your Second Edition as the one they 'ought to buy', as I believe it is a balanced text and can serve
as an excellent departmental guide - especially for those procedures not performed on a routine basis. Plus, as we all are faced with increasing 'multi-
cultural' language issues, the book continues to be a vital resource as we all work to improve our 'patient teaching'." Retired Professor of Nuclear
Medicine , Max H. Lombardi -- "A close and thorough examination of the book indicates that it is an excellent source of detailed and up-to-date
information on Nuclear Medicine procedures as they are applied today in the U.S. The book is definitely a good reference for practicing physicians, NM
technologists, as well as teachers and students in NMT programs across the country. I appreciate the book's organization in alphabetical order rather
than in the classic organ systems way. The alphabetical approach makes it easier to find any procedure instantly. In conclusion, the book is a valuable

Description: The purpose of this book is to provide the outline for the "nuts and bolts" establishment and operation of a nuclear cardiology laboratory.
In so doing, the authors have attempted to deal with the relevant issues that a laboratory director must address in either setting up the laboratory or
maintaining its competitive edge and clinical competence over time. The authors primarily attempted to identify issues related to outpatient imaging
facilities. However, where appropriate issues related to inpatients in hospital-based laboratories are also discussed. In this new edition, the authors
have kept the basic format established in the first edition. In addition to reviewing, modifying and updating each chapter in the first edition, they have
added entirely new chapters on PET imaging, hybrid imaging and the clinical appropriateness of nuclear cardiology procedures. x

Description: In the management of oncologic diseases today, modern imaging modalities contribute heavily to the decision of which form of treatment,
local or systemic, surgical or interdisciplinary, will be most efficient. The addition of functional image information to conventional staging procedures -
be it through positron emission tomography (PET) as a stand-alone unit or the development of combined PET/computed tomography (CT) or by
correlation of modalities using software-based image fusion - represents a further improvement in the diagnostic pathway. Since therapeutic strategies
are changing, the characterization of molecular processes, as delivered by nuclear medicine procedures, become more and more important. To reach
a decision, anatomical-morphological information about the location and texture of a lesion is crucial, as is the functional-metabolic characterization and
general information on the spread of the disease throughout the body. Furthermore, monitoring of response to therapy and diagnostic follow-up to
detect recurrent disease demand detailed information about the properties of a tumor and its relationship to surrounding tissues. The information
needed to strategically plan the therapeutic management can be provided by correlative imaging such as PET and CT or PET/CT. This book is a
comprehensive compilation of the accumulated knowledge on PET and PET/CT in oncology. It covers the entire spectrum from solidly documented
indications, such as staging and monitoring of lung and colorectal cancer, to the application of PET/CT in head and neck surgery, gynecology, radiation
therapy, urology, pediatrics and others. The chapters are supplemented by an introduction into theunderlying techniques of both imaging devices and
radiopharmacy. The book is aimed at the nuclear medicine and radiology specialist as well as the interested physician, who will receive an update of
the possibilities and limitations of PET and PET/CT in oncology. x

Description: The modern practice of nuclear medicine is now well into its seventh decade. Its strength in depicting physiology and function has always
complemented the sister anatomic modalities in use, such as CT, MRI and ultrasound. With the incredible development of PET/CT, this is evident now
more than ever. Clinical Nuclear Medicine is a unique European/American joint venture that focuses on the universal state of the art in both diagnostic
and therapeutic radionuclide methodology. Pertinent clinical applications are emphasized rather than attempting to cover everything included in the
several large comprehensive texts available in the field. This a oepracticala approach should make this a useful guide to nuclear medicine physicians,
technologists, students and interested clinicians alike. x

Description: This book outlines the history of the development of nuclear medicine and describes the hurdles that nuclear medicine has had to face, in
view of the perception of risk of radiation. Up to the present day, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer has been primarily surgical. When a mass or an
enlarged lymph node is detected, immediate attempts are made to remove it or obtain a histological diagnosis by biopsy. Today, characterization of
molecular processes in cancerous lesions by PET can help to determine whether therapy should be aggressive or postponed. The most important
reason for the rapid acceptance of PET imaging is its value in the care of patients with suspected or known cancer, for establishing the diagnosis,
planning and monitoring therapy, and in detecting early recurrence. Written for nuclear medicine professionals, non-nuclear medicine physicians and
the public, this book chronicles the development of nuclear medicine together with its basic philosophy in the past, present and future. Contents: Introduction.- Survival of the Luckiest.- So You Want To Be a Doctor.- First Taste of Research.- Medical School and House Staff.- The
National Institutes of Health.- A New Medical Specialty.- The Early Days.- The Thyroid Paves The Way.- The Breakthrough to Lung Scanning.-
Computers in Nuclear Medicine.- From the Lungs to the Heart.- Growth Out of Control.- Molecular Communication.- The Fight Against Infectious

Description: Biomedical ultrasonics is inherently interdisciplinary, involving mechanics, electrical engineering, physics, biology, and medicine. As such,
it can be an extraordinarily difficult subject to cover in one book. Drawn from years of class notes, student interaction and personal experience,
"Foundations of Biomedical Ultrasound" does just that. It covers the fundamental engineering behind ultrasound equipment, properties of acoustic
wave motion, the behaviour of waves in various media, non-linear waves and the creation of images. The most comprehensive book on the subject,
"Foundations of Biomedical Ultrasound" is an indispensable reference for any medical professional working with ultrasound imaging, and a
comprehensive introduction to the subject for students. The book consists of ten chapters that bridge the spectrum from the fundamental properties of
wave propagation through to clinical systems. The first four chapters describe linear and nonlinear propagation, and methods for calculating the field
produced by transducers of various designs. A number of problems designed to test the reader's understanding, well-suited for formal class
assignments, accompany these chapters.
The topics of ultrasound scattering, and transducer design are addressed in chapters 5 and 6. The final four chapters address methods of imaging and
flow measurement. Some 350 drawings, graphs, sketches and colour images have been used. These, together with many tables, have been used to
illustrate the various topics covered; a substantial portion of which are appearing for the first time in print. Contents: 1. Introduction; 2. Theoretical Basis for Field Calculations; 3. Field Profile Analysis; 4. Nonlinear Ultrasonics; 5. Scattering of Ultrasound; 6.
Ultrasound Transducers; 7. Ultrasound Image Arrays; 8. Ultrasound Imaging Systems: Design, Properties, and Applications; 9. Principles of Doppler
Ultrasound; 10. Pulsed Methods for Flow Velocity Estimation and Imaging; Appendix A Properties of Time-and-Space-Invariant Linear Systems;
Appendix B Function Definitions and Transform Pairs; Appendix C Some Integral and Function Relations; Appendix D Some Vector Relations x
