PATHWAYS TO LEARNING COMMITTEEDAY 3

We are honoured to be learning on the Traditional Territory of the Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh Úx̱wumix̱w and St’át’imc Nation.

The Purpose of Our Time Together

To set direction for education in our district. We are going to collaborate to co-create answers to three questions:1.What do we feel students need to know and be able to do for success in the future?2.How will we know? What evidence will convince us that our plan is working?3.What actions will we take to help students get there? How will we respond when students are not learning?

Recap of the First Two Days

• Our own and each others’ thoughts, input from our community, and what research says about what students need for the future

• Our ideas shown through the Medicine Wheel and Howard Gardner’s Five Minds

Our Objective of the Day:

Finding the evidence that will convince us that our plan is working.

Engergizer Activity

• Clapping activity

Input and Research Activity

• Seven points of input and research• Five people at each numbered data point • Rotate w your grid (eight squares – one for

extra thoughts)• Go with your # group (all 1’s etc.)• Meet as a group to “think out loud”

• Something that you see repeating

• Something you are unsure of

• The most important thing you want

to point out

Five Competencies

• Creating “experts” at each location• Looking through your lens, how can we

know ‘how we’re doing’?

Guiding Questions for the “Experts”

• In what ways can our students demonstrate this competency?

• Which assessment strategy did you discuss today that would work for this competency?

• How will we ALL know how ALL of our students are doing?
