Red River Valley Fair, North Dakota, July 7-12, 2015• 3 children ill with STEC/1 with HUS• Fair did not have a petting zoo• All of the children had contact with animals at the fair• Most animals provided by N. Dakota State University

Hand Sanitizer Questions• Hand sanitizers do not work well on soiled or oily

hands and are not a substitute for hand washing• Effective hand sanitizers contain at least 60%

alcohol and are flammable• “Keep Out of Reach of Children” is stated on the

label• Store hand sanitizers properly and make sure

children are properly supervised
