ADVANTAGES

Has a very good reputation.

No need to worry about fraud.

It has a large community. Even

if one of your items doesn’t

sell, you can receive feedback

as to why this is so.

11

DISADVANTAGES

Strict guidelines – Items sold must be

handmade, vintage or crafting

supplies.

Listing an item can get slightly

complicated, but it will be easy after

getting used to.

3. Promotions

Use well described

titles!

This seller also uses

her description to

talk about

promotions, which

would be attractive

to customers.

24

Under shipping, you can decide on the processing time for an item

to be dispatched for delivery. This is the amount of time it would take

you to prepare the said item.

Buyer pays the shipping cost. Shipping costs depend on

the country they want you to ship to. Add as many

countries to ship as you’d like with separate shipping costs

for each country.

I V . D E L I V E R Y

25

Shipping Profiles allow you to quickly update multiple

listings with similar shipping costs.

You can create separate Shipping Profiles for the

different types of items you sell.

You can determine the shipping cost for an item of a

specific size, weight and shipping method. Then, create

a Shipping profile for that item so you can quickly add

those details to new listings for those items.

V . R E C E I V I N G P A Y M E N T

26

You can accept

payment by credit

cards, debit cards,

Paypal and Etsy gift

cards.

We recommend

PayPal for security

and convenience.

More information will

be included later in

this presentation.

27

Feedback from customers

are important!

Potential customers will

always look at reviews

before deciding to buy

anything from your shop.

Regarding negative

feedback, don’t take it to

heart. It will help you

improve as a seller as you

will learn from your

mistakes and become

better.

V I I . Y O U R P O L I C I E S

28

• It is up to you to make your own policies.

• Click on your shop on the upper right side of the

page, the look at the left side, click on Information

and Appearance, and then Policies.

• It is quite important to do so as to be covered under

seller protection.

• Refer to the policies of similar shops. Explore Etsy

for policies of other sellers!

33

DISADVANTAGES

Fees are relatively high.

Listings are 35p if you have done

more than 20 this month, 10% of

a transaction (including transport

cost) plus PayPal fee.

Negative feedback destroys

reputation.

I I . R E G I S T R A T I O N

Click on the Register button on the top left of the

It is up to you to decide your return policies.

We recommend that you state clearly that no cash refunds

will be provided except for defects.

If you wish to provide cash refunds or exchanges for non-

defective items, you should state that shipping, handling and

insurance fees cannot be refunded to the buyer, and that the

buyer must pay for their own return shipping cost to you.

53

P O L I C I E S : R E F U N D S A N D

D E F E C T S

Make sure that you package your item carefully to avoid

defects during delivery.

If you are selling vintage goods, make sure to list the

condition of the good clearly. E.g. “Condition is 8/10, with

few minor scratches”

If the customer states that the item has a defect, request that

they e-mail you with a photo of the defect within a fixed time

period you stated in your policy.

You should provide a refund if the customer requested for it if it

is your negligence in sending out a faulty item!

What if there is a defect in an item I sent?

54

Example of a defective return policy:

“Please check the items when your order

arrives. If there are any discrepancies, please

notify me within 5 days so that I can take

corrective action.

If the problem is because I messed up (yikes) –

incorrect description, wrong item shipped or

major flaw, then you can return it for a full

refund.

However, please contact me before sending

anything back.”R E T R I E V E D F R O M T O P E T S Y S E L L E R B O H E M I A N F I N D I N G S ,

Example of a defective return policy:

don't want it it), shipping, handling, and insurance fees

are NOT refundable and you are responsible for return

shipping cost. As mentioned previously, you must

contact me within 5 days of receiving your order.

Important note: All returned products must be in their

original condition. I will issue a credit to your PayPal

account after I receive the returned products. You will

receive a refund for the item less the shipping costs

paid.”
