o IDEA was created so that children with disabilities have the opportunity to receive a free appropriate public education.
o Special Needs Students feel like they are
single out when students without
disabilities tried to work with them.
Ask if they “WANT” help, not “NEED” help.
o Place Special Needs Students in large
groups of play. Such as soccer, were all
students were treated exactly the same.
o Smaller number of students integrate
better skilled players with the Special
Needs Students.
oTennis is a sport that allows students with
disabilities to interact with students
without disabilities. Place a good skilled
player with a special needs student, and
have them play the same type of team on
the other side.
Accepting each other socially is more
important to the successful progress of each
student. Strong relationships are created.
Gross Motor Skills are the abilities usually
acquired during infancy and early
childhood.

parents to work with
educators to help
kids succeed in
school.
Kids struggling in school may qualify for
support services. Allowing them to be
taught in a special way.
There are many categories of special
Education. Also, there are many add-ons to
find a certain disability.

Around the campus of Central Michigan, you might see pins that read “R Word” with a slash through it. “R” stands for retard or retarded. Those words are used way to often. We need to eliminate this word from being said. If you heard someone say the “R” word call them out on it.
