Order of Business

• Items discussed in meeting• Systematic• Begins when meeting is called to order

Order of Business• Order that a meeting follows• MRS SUN

1. Reading and Approval of Minutes2. Reports of Officers, Boards, and Standing Committees3. Reports of Special Committees4. Special Orders5. Unfinished Business6. New Business

Motions

• Formal proposal to take certain action• Different types:• Main• Secondary• Privileged • Incidental• Subsidiary• “Bring Back”

Main Motions

• Introduce an important item to group• One main motion before assembly•Most basic motion

Making a Motion• Stand and be recognized• Make the motion• Second the motion• State the motion• Motion is debated• Put the motion• Vote• Announce the result

Practice Making Motions

• Find a partner• Should be someone you do not know!

• Scenario 1: You would like for your chapter to host a canned food drive. • Scenario 2: Develop a motion for an idea to

fundraise for the Foundation.• Share

Minutes

•Written record of what happened during the meeting• Secretary records the minutes•Minutes are approved• Become official record

Rules of Debate

• The floor must be obtained•Maker of the motion can speak first• Limited to ten minutes and two speeches• Debate must be germane
