Work hard while at school. Enjoy what they are doing. Balance in their lives

There needs to be time For academic pursuits (Reading, Homework …) For cultural interests (Music, dance, singing …) For sport (Soccer, Basketball, Tennis …) For down time (Play, board games, riding bike,

shopping…)

Usually be set on Monday Due dates for homework will be recorded in

the school diary English and Math sheets

English sheet will be a Reading Comprehension Math will be a sheet related to the work we are

doing in class. This sheet will be the revision for the week.

Can be used as a time to finish off any uncompleted work or to research tasks that is impossible to complete during a normal lesson.

Words are usually given out on Monday Students are expected to write the words

into their diary on Monday morning. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and

Thursday nights students are expected to practice their spelling every night.

Tests are Friday morning.

Study Steps to Learn a Word Say – Say the word. Remember when

you have heard the word used. Think about what it means.

Look – Look at the word. Find any prefixes, suffixes, or other word parts you know. Try to picture the word in your mind. Think of another word that is related in meaning and spelling.

Spell – Spell the word to yourself. Think about the way each sound is spelled. Notice any unusual letter combinations.

Write – Write the word without looking at it.

Check – Check that you have spelled the word correctly. If you have got the correct spelling, go onto the next word. If not, write the correct spelling next to the word.

Students should read for at least 20 minutes every day.

Students will get their books from the library or from the books already in the classroom.

Please record your child’s reading every night. 5S in their student diary. 5C in their Reading Log.

Students should read books within their AR reading level. If they read books which are too hard, they will

not improve as quickly as if they are to read books at their level.

Similarly if they read books which are too easy, they are not challenging themselves.

Most importantly we are trying to foster within the the students a love for reading.

Throughout history, human migration has impacted our world (Social Studies)

Media influences our behavior, values and beliefs (Technology)

Basic laws of forces and motions (Science) Finding peaceful solutions to conflict leads to a

better quality of life (Social Studies) Taking positive action makes a difference (The

Exhibition) Changes occur as we mature and go through

life (Science)

The Exhibition Taking positive action makes a difference (The

Exhibition) Students will need to start thinking about what charity

organization that they will want to support. We want students to take action towards their charity

organization. We want the students to start taking action soon. (We are going to devote some class time soon to working on the exhibition) For now we want the students to just start thinking about an organization that they might like to help.

Collecting money is a valuable thing to do, but there are so many other ways to help. We want this project to last longer than just the 6-8 weeks of the exhibition

Students will need to keep a record (A journal) of the ways that they help. Take plenty of photos. Write Journal notes as they occur.

•In much the same way you use a calculator in Mathematics as a tool to aid the teaching and learning of some mathematical concepts, so we believe that the computer is one tool that we use to help with teaching and learning.•We don’t have a computer studies time, however we teach the skills that are needed for that task.•We don’t have set programs that we feel we have to teach, but we want students to be confident users of computer technology.•We want to use the computers to develop higher order thinking skills. •Computers are integrated into every part of the curriculum.•In Semester 2 students will be invited to purchase a lap top through the school in preparedness for Middle School.

If you have any questions that affect your son or daughter directly please see us individually after the meeting.
