It all started in April of 2011…

Given the alarming state of literacy…

… a question was asked.

Can willing and able students…

…make a difference…

…in the lives of young learners?

The answer was a resounding YES!

Inspired by overwhelming spirit…

… acts of generosity…

…and selfless, living examples…

…and driven by a will to serve the nation…

…the UP College of Education created an NSTP Literacy Training Service Program…

… and learned more about the challenges of literacy teaching and learning.

In cooperation with our public school partners…

… our NSTP-LTS students provide much needed literacy instruction to those who

need it.

They teach literacy through a structured approach.

They develop literacy through play.

They provide one-on-one teaching.

They provide intensive intervention.

They give time for practice.

and take on various challenges in stride.

They are friends...

…and literacy tutors that serve as a guiding hand.

They read good books…

and have a lot of fun in the process!

But these little books….

… must reach these little hands.

The Padyaklatan is a pedicab library that brings children’s books to

nearby communities to help foster in children a genuine love for

reading. By bringing little books to these little

hands, we hope to make a positive difference in these young learners’

lives.
