It all started in April of 2011…

Page 2: Nstp lts upc ed

Given the alarming state of literacy…

Page 3: Nstp lts upc ed

… a question was asked.

Page 4: Nstp lts upc ed

Can willing and able students…

Page 5: Nstp lts upc ed

…make a difference…

Page 6: Nstp lts upc ed

…in the lives of young learners?

Page 7: Nstp lts upc ed

The answer was a resounding YES!

Page 8: Nstp lts upc ed

Inspired by overwhelming spirit…

Page 9: Nstp lts upc ed

… acts of generosity…

Page 10: Nstp lts upc ed

…and selfless, living examples…

Page 11: Nstp lts upc ed

…and driven by a will to serve the nation…

Page 12: Nstp lts upc ed

…the UP College of Education created an NSTP Literacy Training Service Program…

Page 13: Nstp lts upc ed

… and learned more about the challenges of literacy teaching and learning.

Page 14: Nstp lts upc ed

In cooperation with our public school partners…

Page 15: Nstp lts upc ed

… our NSTP-LTS students provide much needed literacy instruction to those who

need it.

Page 16: Nstp lts upc ed

They teach literacy through a structured approach.

Page 17: Nstp lts upc ed

They develop literacy through play.

Page 18: Nstp lts upc ed

They provide one-on-one teaching.

Page 19: Nstp lts upc ed

They provide intensive intervention.

Page 20: Nstp lts upc ed

They give time for practice.

Page 21: Nstp lts upc ed

and take on various challenges in stride.

Page 22: Nstp lts upc ed

They are friends...

Page 23: Nstp lts upc ed

…and literacy tutors that serve as a guiding hand.

Page 24: Nstp lts upc ed

They read good books…

Page 25: Nstp lts upc ed

and have a lot of fun in the process!

Page 26: Nstp lts upc ed

But these little books….

Page 27: Nstp lts upc ed

… must reach these little hands.

The Padyaklatan is a pedicab library that brings children’s books to

nearby communities to help foster in children a genuine love for

reading. By bringing little books to these little

hands, we hope to make a positive difference in these young learners’

lives.
