We all love our Green Belt.
We are fortunate in Stoke D’Abernon to be surrounded
by so much green open space which means we can combine the benefits
of living in a semi -rural community with being close to fields, woods and footpaths.
The Green Belt was introduced in 1938 as an inspired move to prevent the London urban
sprawl. Green spaces are also vital for wildlife, rainwater absorption and recreation.
Many residents believe our area is already overcrowded whilst others see a pressing need for more houses for future
generations. At particular risk of housing development are the fields either side of Blundell Lane and both sides of the rail bridge.
The future of the Green Belt has been the subject of recent public consultation and voters will have the opportunity in May to decide which
candidates for Elmbridge Council offer the best chance of preserving our local Green Belt.
Anyone interested can follow the information and advice provided by the Cobham Green Belt.

Message from the Rector
What is Pentecost?
Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Christian church and the start of the church’s mission to the world as well as the festival when Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. It occurs on the
Sunday fifty days after Easter (the name comes from the Greek pentekoste, “fiftieth”) and falls on 31st May this year.
It is also called Whitsun, but Pentecost does not necessarily coincide with the Whitsun Bank Holiday in the UK.
At the first Pentecost, the disciples were hidden away for fear of reprisals following the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus. Before he Ascended on what the church calls Ascension Day, Jesus told his disciples that he would send them a gift. That gift was the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and that is the way Christians understand God.
Pentecost is a happy festival. Ministers in church often wear robes with red in the design as a symbol of the flames in which the Holy Spirit came to earth. (front cover)
May the excitement of Pentecost and warmer weather hearten us all.
Blessings and Prayers,
Godfrey
