Background • NaMeX joins AMS-‐IX reseller program in Nov, 2010 (2 years ago!) • High capacity L2 link between Rome and Amsterdam • 9 members joined in: small to medium sized ISPs • ~ 1.5 Gbps exchanged traffic
Why the partnership • Provide new development opportuniBes to NaMeX members
• Access to largest peering point in Europe • Ge\ng to big content providers ! • Shared costs • Full AMS-‐IX membership
• A]ract prospects with new interconnecBon scenarios • Players from Mediterranean and Middle East • AlternaBve route to Northern Europe˝

Experiences
Lessons learned • Members connecBon is “plug ‘n play”
• Easy configuraBon • Route servers help, traffic from day 1 • Full/Fast AMS-‐IX NOC support
• L2 link is a crucial aspect • Started with unprotected service • First year with frequent problems due to carrier (too
many maintenances, too many failures) • Turned to new provider in 2012
• Be]er performance, be]er availability and resiliency
• Similar costs • Confirmed in 2013
• AdministraBon overhead is minimal
• NaMeX acts as a single interface
• 5 @ 250 Mbps • 4 @ 1 Gbps
