researchers in the Neuroscience-field. Activities will consist of short talks, a lab tour, panel debates, art exhibition, and information displays. Topics include: the ageing brain, the link between rugby and brain cancer, the blood-brain barrier, special talks around dementia, how the brain has evolved, and much more. The octadecaneuropeptide ODN prevents 6-hydroxydopamine-induced apoptosis of cerebellar granule neurons through a PKC-MAPK-dependent pathway. H. Kaddour, Y. Hamdi, D. Vaudry, M. Basille, L. Desrues, J. Leprince, H. Castel, H. Vaudry, M.C. Tonon, M. Amri, O. Masmoudi-Kouki. In this article published in J. Neurochem. (2013;125:620-633), researchers from the University of Tunis and Inserm Unit 982 show that the ODN-peptide, an endozepine produced by astroglial cells in the CNS, has a neuroprotective effect in vitro towards the toxicity of 6-hydroxydopamine. This anti-apoptotic action involves a receptor which is pharmacologically dinstinct from classical benzodiazepine receptors and the activation of the PLC/PKC/MAK pathway. These studies suggest that the ODN-peptide could be the basis for the development of derivatives selectively mimicking its neuroprotective activity.

Spatio-temporal characterization of the pleiotro-

phinergic system in mouse cerebellum: Evidence for

its key role during ontogenesis. M. Basille-Dugay,

M.M. Hamza, C. Tassery, B. Parent, E. Raoult, M. Bé-

nard, R. Raisman-Vozari, D. Vaudry, D.C. Burel. In this

article, to be published in Exp. Neurol.

(2013, in press, doi:pii: S0014-4886(13)

00057-5), researchers from INSERM Unit

982 describe the spatiotemporal characteri-

zation of pleiotrophin and of its receptors in the mice

cerebellum, and demonstrate that this system contri-

butes to key steps of the ontogenesis of the

cerebellum. In particular, pleiotrophin can control

morphogenesis of Purkinje cells and regulate migration

of granule cells during cerebellar development.

Furthermore, this molecule contributes to the forma-

tion of the perineuronal networks in the adult

cerebellum, suggesting that it contributes to neuronal

plasticity.

The 17th Annual meeting of the LARC-Neuroscience Network will take place on Friday 25th October 2013 in Rouen, organized by Dr David VAUDRY (Inserm U982), Pr Serguei FETISSOS (Inserm U1073) and colleagues. The conference will be held

at the H2O, a building dedicated to the promotion of science, and located Quai de Boiguilbert along the Seine river. The program will feature three plenary lectures given by Pr Denis BURDAKOV (MRC National Institute for Medical Research, London, United Kingdom) with a presentation entitled « Peptidergic neurons and brain state control », Pr Henry MARKRAM (Brain Mind Institute, Lausanne, Switzerland) with a presentation entitled « The Human Brain Project » and Pr Stuart ALLAN (University of Manchester, Manches-ter, United Kingdom) with a presentation entitled « Inflammation and stroke: it's not all in the brain ». The meeting will also include twelve oral presen-tations given by some of the leading young researchers from the LARC member institutions. There will also be a poster display session and a lunchtime networking opportunity. Prizes will be awarded for the best oral and poster presentations.

Thanks to the support from the Interreg IVA 2 Seas TC2N project, the registration is free but the number of participants is limited to 200. For more information and registration, visit: http://larc-neurosciences.org/registration

Registration and abstract submission for the 39th Symposium of the French Society of Neuroendocrinology (SNE) have been extended until May 17th. To find out more and register, please go to: http://sne2013.univ-rouen.fr

Miss Leonora FLORIOT has been hired as a research engineer in the SCAC Be-havioral Analysis Facility of the Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation (IRIB), as part of an ERDF project. Under the direction of Dr. Jean-Claude do REGO, Miss FLORIOT will implement and develop techniques in animal behavior to study, in rodents, affective and motor disorders that affect humans.

Miss Tiphaine HENRY was hired as a research engineer in the SCAC as part of an ERDF project. Under the direction of Dr. Jean-Claude do REGO, Miss HEN-RY will implement and develop techniques in animal behavior to study, in rodents, affective and motor disorders that affect humans.

Mr. Alexis LEFEBVRE was hired as a Bio-IT engineer in the SCAC, with the financial support of the INTERREG TC2N project. Under the direction of Dr. Jean-Claude do REGO, Mr. LEFEBVRE will implement and devel-op protocols for automation of certain behavioral tests to study, in rodents, affective and motor disorders that affect humans.

Miss Jessica MASSON was hired as a research engineer in the PISSARO Proteomics Platform with the financial support of the INTERREG TC2N project. Under the direction of Dr. Philippe CHAN and David VAUDRY, Miss Masson will work on methods of proteomics analysis for Neuroscience research.

Inserm Unit 982 in Mont-Saint-Aignan is recruiting an assistant engineer in animal experimentation on a fixed-term contract. The candidate will implement and develop surgical techniques in rodents, assist users, participate in the management of the surgery department and manage a series of transgenic lines. Please send your resumes and cover letter to: david.vaudry@univ-rouen.fr

Dr. David VAUDRY was appointed member of the editorial board of Stroke Research and Treatment (http://www.indawi.com/journals/srt), a jour-nal which publishes original articles and publications dealing with preclini-cal and clinical studies of cerebral ischemia.

The opening of the Binge drinking exhibition by Pierrick SORIN took place in Amiens on May 2nd. The exhibition will be presented at the Picardie Univer-sity until May 27th. On May 3rd, a conference on Binge drinking was given by

Dr. Tamzin RIPLEY (University of Sussex) in Amiens. To find out more, please go to: www.alcobinge.org

Several pages of the Larc-Neuroscience network web-site are now available in English, to increase our

readership and to promote further exchanges between French and British partners. News posted on the websixte can now be published both in French and English.

A bilingual leaflet presenting the

main activities of the TC2N project

was published in April 2013.

Copies of the prospectus are

available upon request at

david.vaudry@univ-rouen.fr. The

5th Steering Committee of the

TC2N project was organized in

Exeter on April 15th 2013 by Pro-

fessor Charles TYLER’s team. The

meeting continued on April 16th with a set of lectures

given by Charles TYLER (Endocrine disrupters in fish and

the zebrafish model), Olivier KAH (Endocrine disrupters

and the fish brain), Jean-Claude LE MEVEL (Central car-

diovascular and ventilatory action of serotonin and

fluoxetine in trout), Ludovic GALAS (Cell dynamics with

new imaging approaches), Omar TOUZANI (Impact of

arterial hypertension on the evolution of stroke-induced

brain damage) and Serguei FETISSOV (Bacterial host

control of appetite). The next steering committee of the

TC2N project will be held in Rouen on October 24th,

2013. The steering committee of the LARC-
