MUSIC VIDEO PITCHBY LIAM GILLIVER
I intend to create a music video to Lauren O’Connell’s cover of “House Of The Rising Sun” - a song originally produced by ‘The Animals’ in the early 1960’s. The video will
be intertextually referenced to the 3rd series of FX’s ‘American Horror Story’- providing a potential fan base already, due to the success of the show. The structure of the video will be multi-stranded, portraying the life of three witches in New Orleans as well as a
possible love triangle.
Hopefully the video will bring an element of entertainment to distract viewers from their daily grind- thus following the Uses and Gratification Theory. The focus on style, fashion and all together materialistic iconography such as designer labels may also influence an individuals persona, allowing them to use inspiration from the video for their own social identity. This is already evident with viewers being influenced by the
show American Horror Story and so attempting to achieve a similar look using miss en scene, this can be seen in the two images below. .
The genre of the song is best described as a mix of alternative pop and blues with moments of raw instrumental playing, the sound conveys a sinister and mysterious
atmosphere which fits the narrative well. In terms of editing, the overall look should be sharp and sleek, with elaborate yet effective special effects such as smoke screens and the use of candles. The location will be unknown, mainly set in a photo studio resembling the inside of a Coven. The reference to witchcraft and wiccanry causes
enough controversy to draw attention but still remains within the regulations of Ofcom and BBFC. A big ‘skill’ our company has is imagination, enabling us to create a very
individual piece, that exceeds the creativity of most music videos. I will be filming with a Cannon EOS 1100D and editing using the latest version of Final Cut Pro X.
