To the 2015 season
the FIRST Robotics Com-
petition proposed to the
teams the following game:
RECYCLE RUSH. It is a re-
cycling-themed game pla-
yed by two Alliances of
three robots each. Robots
score points by stacking
totes on scoring platforms,
capping those stacks with
recycling containers, and
properly disposing of pool
noodles, representing lit-
ter. Based on this, we gave
the best of us to design
and build a robot to com-
pete at the San Diego’s
Regional in United States.
With much effort and dedication we
finished the robot within and send it to San
Diego-CA, where the competition was going
to happen. There, we got the 6th place in the
final ranking among the 60 teams that were

“Finally, even after
several sleepless nights,
the joint efforts of our
team’s members and
the help of our sponsors
we could finalize the
successful robot.”

Certificate of regio-
nal winner of the
Dean's List Award,
received in San Die-
go, CA.
“Luan has showed himself as a potential FIRST’s spreader and a natural lea-
der. His enthusiasm is unquestionable. He is always ready to help even though it is
not part of his knowledge scope. His curiosity has awakened an admirable interest
about everything that surrounds him, which has led him towards
an unprecedented excellence in all he gets involved with… Luan is the kind of per-
son that gets involved with social and technological programs because he truly
enjoys it. He dedicates himself to these events because he is capable to see all the
meaning hidden on that. We are sure Luan can see beyond the career and profes-
sional opportunities… We are sure that we can point out this 17 years old kid as a
great inspiration to others of his age. Luan has really encouraged everybody
around him to tireless go after significant practices to accomplish in their daily lives.
All his dedication has stimulated many other students to emulate it.”
many weeks of hard
work, in which each of
the team’s members
played an important role
from the organization
and safety of the work-
place to put into practice
the proposed complex me-
chanical systems in our
project. This season was
another great opportunity
of growing to the members
of the team especially to
the new ones, who actively
contributed being instruc-
ted to perform their tasks.
Finally, even after several
sleepless nights, the joint
efforts of our team’s mem-
bers and with the help of
our sponsors we could fi-
nalize the successful robot.
Thus, we gave the fi-
nishing touches in the ro-
bot and then we sent it to
San Diego-CA.
During the
2015 season we deve-
loped a robot based on
the game proposed by
FIRST, the Recycler
Rush. There were

A regional competition
lasts three days, the first is cal-
led “practice day”, in this day
teams can test their robot in the
official arena; besides, the ro-
bots are inspected by the jud-
ges, who analyses if the team
had followed all the roles, which
are provided by FIRST during
the kic-off, to build the robot.
On the second day, the quali-
fying matches begin and on the
third day there are a selection of
the alliances that are going to
contest the quarter-finals and the
final matches.
First day: we come across
some technical obstacles in our
robot and to change that situa-
tion our students had to work
hard to fix all the problems befo-
re the first match. Already on the
second day of competition, we
definitely fixed all the problems
that could disrupt our robot du-
ring the game and at the end of
the day we were in a better posi-
tion in the rankings. On the last
day of competition, to have a
chance of qualifying for the quar-
ter-finals, we would need to do
well in the next three games. The
results were great! And because of
that, we were chosen by the "fifth
alliance" to continue playing, mo-
ving into the "quarter-final". At the
end of the competition, our team
peaked at the 6th place in the ran-
king of 60 teams, obtaining opti-
mal performance for this season.
What do you think about the
2015 season?
"To participate of the sea-
son was very exciting! In the first
day when we watched the kick-off
and discovered what was the chal-
lenge for this year’s competition
we met and started our project
planning how our team’s robot
should be. From then we had just
six weeks to decide and build the
robot. So, I had to work hard. The
season was great and I could
learn a lot! "
What did you learn this year?
"In this first year I learned
a little about each area of robo-
tics (mechanical, electrical, pro-
gramming, design and English),
and to the next season I’ll be al-
ready choose an area to speciali-
ze. I also learned a lot about te-
amwork and friendship."
What robotics is for you?
"Robotics is very impor-
tant to me. It’s an open door, I
can learn more and more every
time. It is a great opportunity for
me to qualify professionally in
the future."

On May 16
(Saturday), Team Trail
Blazer had the pleasure of
participate in the Educati-
onal Robotics event in De-
bate - RED # 2, held in
SENAI, College of
Technology in Porto Ale-
gre/RS-BR. Being a colla-
borative event, our team
had the opportunity to contribu-
te to the main goal of the event
that is to exchange experiences
on technologies and in Educati-
onal Robotics among educatio-
nal institutions, organizations,
companies, public agencies and
other interested parties. So the

members of the team had a
chance to present the FIRST
Robotics Competition and our
work to as a team to all people
that were present in the exhibi-
tion.
We also had an opportu-
nity to participate in lectures, de-
bates, exhibitions and
workshops focusing on national
and international competitions
such as the Brazilian Robotics
Olympics (OBR), COPPER,
Mostratec a nd the First® Robo-
tics Competition (FRC) and the
FLL Robotics Tournament
(First® LEGO® League).

FIRST is an acronym for Inspiration
and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST
was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's
interest and participation in science and techno-
logy. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not
-for-profit public charity designs accessible, inno-
vative programs that motivate young people to
pursue education and career opportunities in sci-
ence, technology, engineering, and math, while
building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
What is FIRST? What is FRC?
The varsity Sport for the MindTM,
FRC combines the excitement of sport with
the rigors of science and technology. Under
strict rules, limited resources, and time li-
mits, teams of 25 students or more are
challenged to raise funds, design a team
"brand," hone teamwork. Currently, the re-
gional completions happen in United States,
Mexico, Canada, Israel, and Australia.
