Monday

Have you ever found it difficult to do something? Learning to ride a bike? To do a handstand without falling over? A difficult spelling or mathematical calculation?

Teachers and children discuss things you have found difficult to do in the past but can do now.

Today we are gathered together to think about HOPE for our future and PERSEVERANCE. Sometimes things aren’t easy and can’t be done the first time you try. You have to PERSEVERE.

Watch Time Lapse of Baby Learning to Walk.

Count how many times the baby falls over.

(KS1 may want to miss the film out – teachers judge)

Did you know that JK Rowling’s “Harry Potter” was rejected over and over again by different publishers? Did you know that, when she wrote Harry Potter, JK Rowling’s husband had left her, she had no money and a small child to bring up? Did you know that she was too poor to heat her home so she used to buy one cup of coffee in a café and make it last for hours, writing “Harry Potter” there because it was warmer?

JK Rowling Failure clip.

What did JK Rowling and the baby learning to walk both have in common?

What does God say, in the bible, about times when we find things difficult?

Take a minute to think about something which you are finding difficult at the moment. This might be something which you find hard at school, something which you are worried about, it might be nerves about going to high school, or it might be that you are finding it difficult getting along with someone.

Say your own silent prayer asking God to help give you courage and perseverance to tackle that difficult thing.

PrayerDear God,Thank you that we can learn from every difficult situation. Please help us to be people of resilience.Help us to get back up again when things go wrong.Help us never to give up.Help us to persevere.Thank you for the courage and resilience of people who have shown us that stumbling need not mean failure,For people we know and for inspirational figures who are role models to us.We are thankful for their example.Give us the courage and determination to persevere and believe that even though we might be struggling now, that we can do it with Your help in the future.Amen.

Do you know what “foundations” are when building a house?

• Foundations are dug into the ground and make sure that the house stands firm and doesn’t move or fall down once it’s built.

•Have you ever fallen over? Lost your footing because the ground is not firm? That’s what it can be like when our lives don’t have “firm foundations”.

The story of the two housesP112-113 Lion Storyteller Bible

• Think about the story of the wise man building his house upon the rock. What are the firm foundations of your life – family, friends, your beliefs?

• Prayer:

Dear God,Thank you that you offer us Firm Foundations to build our lives on.Help us to trust you, especially when times are hard.We pray for our friends and families too –help us all to support one another.Amen.

This half term we are thinking about HOPE for our futures- but have you ever felt worried about what the future might hold? In the next class? At high school? For your family? For your friendships?

LISTEN TO “THE AFTERS” I WILL FEAR NO MORE (Full Video saved in JW Hope folder)

What do you think these words in the song mean?

• You’re my courage when I worry in the dead of night

•When the wind and waves are coming, you shelter me. Even though I’m in the storm, the storm is not in me.

•No darkness can overwhelm me…

Reflection and prayer

• Think about something you are worried about and say a silent prayer to place that worry in God’s hands, knowing that He will always be with you.

• WOS Happy “Our Father”

• At the end, if there is time, practise songs for Leavers’ Assembly again: Leavers’ Song (WOS Occasion); Time for Everything (WOS Day); This Day we move forward (WOS Happy)

Friday
