About Me

I was born and raised in Flagler County.

I attended the University of Central Florida and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in May 2010.

I also have my ESOL endorsement and Reading endorsement from UCF.

I am currently in school at the University of Central Florida pursuing my Master’s Degree in Educational Technology.

My Family

My family consists of four furry animals and a teenager!

(Yes, you read that correctly…a teenager! This past summer I became a temporary guardian of a 17 year old. I can’t thank my mom enough for putting up with me at that age!)

Team Teaching

Your child is very lucky to have two teachers working with them this year. I will be teaching English and Language Arts to both classes and Mrs. Irving will teach math and science to both classes.

Mrs. Irving and I are going on our second year team teaching together and we can’t wait!

iPad ClassroomThis year students in both classes will be given an iPad to use for school purposes. The first nine weeks will be dedicated to only in school use in order to ensure that the students are comfortable and are using the iPads for the correct purposes. After those nine weeks students will be able to take them home to use as long as they have met all standards in the previous weeks.

The iPads are great learning tools but will not completely rule out paper in our classroom.

RISEYour child will be able to use the Ergotron LearnFit Standing Desks in Mrs. Irving’s classroom for half of the day. This classroom was developed last year in order to increase productivity in the classroom. Students are able to easily maneuver the desks to work collaboratively in groups.

Students do not have to stand all day and are always given the option of sitting if they decide to.

PE & Wheel Schedule

PE Coach - Coach Bowker

Wheel Rotations will be the same as last year. My homeroom will start off with Art.

Class DojoClass Dojo is an interactive classroom behavior management system. Both Mrs. Irving and I will be using this system. It will require parents to sign up to receive emails or text messages to check on their child’s behavior.

Students can work towards incentives by earning points throughout the day. Points accumulate until the student reaches 100 and then they start over.

Students can lose points for inappropriate behaviors or lack of homework.

Homework ContractMrs. Irving and I will be using a Homework Contract in our

classroom this year. Students will receive a list of their homework for the week on Monday. This sheet allows students to work ahead if needed because of extracurricular activities.

Here is what responsibilities you have for the week in regards to the homework contract…

Monday - Homework Contract is sent home. Parents need to initial the contract that they have seen it.

Students will initial their homework contract each night as they complete their assignments.

Thursday night - Parents will need initial that they have seen the homework throughout the week.

Friday - Students will turn in their homework contract and earn points in Class Dojo.

Supplies

Please be sure to check the supply list on your child’s desk. Some items are very specific.

For the iPad classroom it is vital that your child has a stylus to use. As long as your child takes care of his/her stylus they can last the whole year.
