The open waterThe open water
This is the view from the eastern bank.
The open water provides a habitat for birds (mallard, moorhens, tufted duck, swan) and fish
Around the margins is the swamp/marsh community. These plants are adapted to the conditions, with their roots in water. They provide shelter for the fauna of the pond.
The swamp/marsh community The swamp/marsh community There is high bio-diversity on the margin of the pond:

The Boardwalk allows people to walk out over the marsh to view wildlife and ecosystems, this was renewed in 2003-4 at a cost of £8,000
Here the swamp has been colonised by a wide variety of plants
At the same time as the boardwalk was rebuilt 100 sq metres of reeds and 300 sq metres of willow were removed. The reeds were cleared by a specialist contractor at a cost of £3,500
