Michigan Major Projects @ Work!
On October 18th, Michigan Major Projects Commissioner John Truskowski and officers from the Livonia Elks Lodge presented Rubin Carullio with a brand new iPad. Rubin, a special needs student at Franklin High School will make use of this iPad during school and at home. The iPad was provided with special software that will help Rubin have better communication with his teachers and family and help with his school work. The purchase of the iPad was possible through your donations to the Michigan Major Project Fund. Please keep those MMP Banks coming in!
Our lodge will be hosting some gaming nights at Doc’s Sports Retreat in Octo-ber and November. We are still in need of some retirees that can run these events during the day! Proceeds to benefit our lodge.
November 7-10th November 14-17th November 23-26th
November 24th is the date of our Chili Cook-off. Member John Brooks will be coordinating this event. Please bring your favorite recipe down to
the lodge no later than 6:30 pm. Judg-ing will be at 7:00 pm. John is requesting that the chili entries not be made too spicy, as they will all be combined for the meal afterward. Folks may then add hot sauce and spic-es to their own bowl to suite their per-sonal preference.
In Vain we Call....There will be vacant chair. The chimes of memory will be peeling forth the friendly message, "To Our Absent Members."

Spaghetti Dinner Success!
Our October spaghetti dinner was an awesome time, Leroy and his group of volunteers out did themselves! The spaghetti was fantastic and eve-ryone had a great time with a sold-out crowd to boot. A special thanks to Leroy for coordinating food and volunteers, to John for a wonderful salad bar, cooks Denise and Bill who toiled in the kitchen all night (I hear it is a lot of fun back there). Also, thanks to Heather for greeting everyone for the evening and to Gail and Jack our servers. Finally, thanks to Boy Scouts Zach, Kyle and Sully for their assistance in clean-up (we wish they could do the dishes like that at home!) Leroy’s next dinner will be a Tamale Dinner on November 29th. Look for the sign-up sheet on the activities bulletin board outside the lounge.
Looking for Some Help
It is time to decorate the lodge room for the holidays! We are looking for some volunteers to come join us on November 24th. We will be beginning work at 9:00 am. Please stop in and join us!
We were sorry to loose our leader and founder of the "50 Uppers" club John McQuade. Our sympa-thy and condolences go out to wife Bea and their families. He will be sorely missed at our meetings and various functions. The Butcher Block Bingo was a successful evening. Everyone en-joyed the Sloppy Joes and had fun with the games. We were able to turnover $500 to the lodge. During the October meeting we discussed the 50 Uppers Christ-mas party scheduled for Decem-ber 13th. Jeannette Dougherty suggested that this year we pay for the dinner for our active mem-bers from our treasury. Leonard Loriaux made a motion and it was supported by George Culley. Mo-tion approved by the member-ship. More information will be forthcoming at our next meeting. Lorraine Martin is still in rehab recuperating from surgery for her broken ankle. November Birthdays:
Del Fox 11/3 Mary Brooks 11/17
Katherine Culley 11/26 November Anniversaries:
Wayne & Lil Raylean 11/5 Our next meeting is scheduled for November 14th, hope to see you there. Katherine Culley
This past summer, Troop 732 celebrat-ed their 5th birthday. A group of par-ents from McKinley Elementary School approached the lodge officers five year ago seeking some support and a meeting place for the new Troop. While it was established as a new troop, we had learned that another Troop 732 had been chartered in the early 1960’s at the Livonia Elks Lodge. For the folks reading this issue on-line, Click Here to read more about the Troop’s history. The Troop currently supports 30 scouts and camps every month and attends summer camp every summer. We have produced 12 Eagle Scouts, several of these Eagle Projects have directly sup-ported our lodge. The latest Eagle project, and soon to be Eagle Scout #13 was Sullivan Otter’s project to clean-up the back parking lot and restripe the parking lines with fresh paint. The funding for this project came from our members. (a donation jar for Eagle Projects is in the members lounge) and many of our lodge mem-bers pitched-in to help out. Thanks to the following members for their sup-port: John Mark, Bruno Manni, Karl Swieczkowski, Bob Stempek, Ernie Otter, Dave Fisher & Robb Stempek.
