Mon 12/3 – Drawing – B4 • Warm up: What’s the difference between chalk and

oil pastel? Pastels are sticks of ground pigment mixed with chalk and gum (to form soft pastels) or oil and wax (to form oil pastels). Then shaped into drawing sticks. Both Pastels are mixed on the paper by overlaying or blending.

• Today’s Objective: 1. Practice oil pastel techniques. (Fade, Blend, Tint, Shade, 3D objects & Sgraffito). 2. Photograph & Begin Complementary color still life. 3. In your free time, work on a Drawing of your choice

Oil Pastel Techniques

1. Fade (Value scale of one color that fades from dark to light.)

2. Blend – Two analogous colors overlap smoothly together. 3. Tint – One color plus white to create a highlight. 4. Shade – One color plus black to create a shade. 5. Modeled 3D object – Using Fade, tint & shade to make

something look 3D 6. Sgraffito – Scratching through 1 or 2 layers of oil pastel. 7. Analogous colors are next to each other on the color

wheel & blend well. Try Orange & Red, Blue & Green, etc… 8. Complementary colors are across or opposite each other

on the color wheel & look well side by side. Try Yellow & Violet, Orange & Blue, Red & Green.

• Consider what you might want to paint for a still life of your choice. List some things you could bring in to photograph for your own still life. Start bringing these in next class!

• Warm up: Write & answer: What is a Metaphor? A metaphor is a figure of speech that compares two things without using “like” or “as” … what Metaphor did we talk about for our power point?

• Today’s Objectives: • 1. Finish 3 mask sketches for a grade! • 2. Enlarge your favorite onto 6 x 8 in paper. • 3. Metal techniques: Draw, Flip, Flatten! • 4. Begin tracing your mask onto the metal.

Fri 12/7 – B3 – Art 1 • Warm up: Draw 3 simple pattern designs that you could use

for your mask border or background on the metal.

• Today’s Objectives: 1. Write down metal directions on next slide 2. Show me your 3 sketches (for a grade!) 3. Enlarge your favorite onto 6x8 paper. 4. Then you will trace your 6x8 mask onto the 6x8 metal 5. Experiment with some tooling techniques on the small metal. Closing Question:

Metal Techniques to write down: • 1. Directions: Draw, push, Flip & Flatten

2. Convex (pops out): Push out from the back 3. Concave (pushed in): Push in from front 4. Neutral (flat): Flatten and smooth on front.

• Metal Steps: Show me your 3 sketches for a grade. 1. Trace your 6x8 paper onto the 6x8 metal 2. Practice tooling techniques on the small metal. 3. Take the paper off & begin tooling “FLIP & FLATTEN”

• Warm up: Write this: 1. Mid-Term Exam will be on Tuesday 12/19 over all vocabulary & warm ups & closings!

• Due Today: Warm ups & Closings for past 2 weeks 11/27 -12/7

• Today’s Objectives: 1. Write down the review of behavior expectations. 2. Continue Complementary color still life.

• Closing Question:

Review of Behavior expectations: • 1. My priority in this class is to learn & make art (Not to socialize with friends, joke

or play around). 2. I will stay in my assigned seat (not move around to sit with my friends. This is a privilege that can be earned by good behavior). 3. I will stay on task 100% of the time. If I am finished with something early I will work on a drawing of my choice quietly in my sketchbook & not disrupt others around me. “ 4. I will keep my hands to myself and not touch any one for any reason. 5. I will not waste time on my phone playing games or watching videos. 6. If I need to get up to get something or throw something away I will do it and go directly back to my seat. 7. I will use a quiet voice when I talk to people at my table and not talk across the room. (There is no reason to be loud. Not everyone wants to hear your conversation). 8. I will be on time to class out of respect for Mrs. Meisner & because it is school policy. 9. I will listen when Mrs. Meisner is talking - not try to be a class clown by calling attention to myself, making silly noises, or distracting others. 10. No food or drinks in class. This causes distractions. (Bottled water is ok). 11. I will do the warm ups & closings each class because they are part of the class work & will be graded. 12. I will make my work my priority and try my personal best. I will get all my work completed & turned in on time. 13. Any more off task behavior will result in detentions or office referrals.
