When we put our final finished product together and it has a front and back cover with the pages together that is called binding.

Today we'll learn 3 ways to bind a book.

Easy book binding:Punch or poke two or three holes on the side of your book.

Thread string, ribbon, yarn, twine, or even a thin vine and tie a small bow at each hole.

Sewing unfolded pages:

Punch or poke holes on the side of your book.

Sew through the holes, then sew back the other way looping around the spine.

Watch as I bind my book with this technique.

Sewing folded pages:Stack several pages and fold in half.

Punch or poke holes on the fold of your papers.

Make two folds in the center of a sturdy paper to create a spine. Punch holes at the top and bottom of the spine.

Thread the string through the spine and tie. Watch as I demonstrate.

We have learned how to use the writer's process to take a book from an idea all the way to a bound finished product!

We can also bound books to use as journals or sketchbooks.
