WEEK1 – STUDY HABITS

▪Study in 20-minute sprints, take 5-minute breaks; give

yourself a big reward when done studying.

▪Get enough sleep

▪Study in groups (module content, not assessments)

▪Use “word association or photo tricks” to RECALL

concepts learned in class (example: WIIFM)

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Check every student has a Name Tent

2. Check & record classroom daily attendance

3. Assist enforcing Classroom TOP-3 Rules (Attendance, No Phones,

English Only)

4. Timekeeper (Lecture & Tutorial start/stop time)

5. Lecture/Tutorial note taker (example: action items for Instructor)

6. Assist with all classroom administration & audio/visual issues

7. Coordinate guest lecturers, events, and field trips

8. Lead Tutorial Class if Instructor is temporarily absent

9. Bring any anonymous student feedback to Instructor attention

10. T.A.s determine who will bring food treats for each Lecture (paid by

Instructor, purchased and distributed by the TA).

1. Who you are + what you believe + what you do

2. Don’t try to fight “gravity” (you can’t fix these… family business

example), reframe and move on

3. Build 3 five-year plans

4. Prototype your life…try new things continuously

5. Choose well… filter options down to only 5 choices, then make

decisions permanent (don’t change your mind). Use a mindful

process: Collect, Reduce, Decide, Move-on

Week 4: Employee internal organizational advancement

• How to “climb the corporate ladder”

• What about cultural diversity? Who are the disadvantaged?

EXERCISE

• Write 3 ways you could get started with an internship in an

international corporation (10 minutes)

• Share your internship access strategies with a classmate (10 minutes)

▪3 students: What is your favorite industry and why.

Week 5: Employee self-assessments and Human Resource audits

• Self-Assessments = what are these?

• Audit = HR validation of assessments given to employees

EXERCISE

Create your own “Student Self Assessment” (4 criteria).

Rate your student performance in level 3, 4, 5. List how you

could have improved your rates for each year.

List what you are doing in level 6 to get the highest mark you

are capable of.

Week 6: Employee guidance to personal identity

• What are these?

• Why would companies want an employee to really “know themself”?

What jobs typically require HIGH levels of Personal Identity (knowing who

you are) and even Personal Branding (knowing what image you want to

broadcast)?

PROFESSIONAL INDUSTRY MENTORS

Week 7: Employee mentor facilitation (senior, peer, other industry, life

coach)

• What makes a good mentor?

MOTIVATIONAL REWARD SYSTEM

▪ IF THEN – if you do this then you get that (expected reward, only

works on ~20% of employees)

▪ NOW THAT – now that you accomplished X, I will give you a reward

(unexpected by employee, if it’s done too often then it becomes an IF

THEN expected reward, so be very careful how this is used)

▪ SOCIAL RECOGNITION – take time to know your subordinates and

supervisors as people, get to know them and care about them as a

real human. (doesn’t cost a thing, but must be genuine)

▪ SELF RECOGNITION/INTRINSIC – when it only matters what you

think about yourself (how can you reward yourself with

accomplishments? Get passed your own insecurities about self-

worth, make your own goals to achieve, practice acknowledging

yourself)

Competitive advantage refers to factors that allow a company to produce goods or services

better or more cheaply than its rivals. These factors allow the productive entity to generate

Making a company poster…

1. Its an internal advertisement to employees

2. Its inspirational

6. Its thought provoking – make the employees stop and

ASSESSMENT 2:

POSTER

Video… “it’s a presentation of the poster to the

employees”, but its NOT a presentation – it’s a

INFOMERCIAL!

While the term "infomercial" was originally applied only to

television advertising, it is now sometimes used to refer

to any video presentation which presents a significant

amount of information in an actual, or perceived, attempt

to promote a point of view.

Assessment 2 = video of the “solution” for your company,

bring your poster to life!

ASSESSMENT 2: VIDEO

MAKING VIDEOS 1

▪ Infomercial or Promo Video

1. Start with a SCRIPT

2. Short & sweet / snappy / stand out

3. Focus on audience

4. What’s the problem you are solving?

5. Empathize with audience problem, then show them how you can solve it!

6. Focus on what audience really wants to know

7. How can you make the audiences life better?

8. Evoke emotion to motivate audience

9. Focus on BENEFITS not features

10. Call to action – what do you want your audience to do after watching

video?

11. Start with a template then add your own content to customize the message

12. 10 minutes total filming, cut down to final 2-minute video
