KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS The Knights of Columbus San Lorenzo Ruiz Council 14866 would like to give a heartfelt thank-you to all who made our 4th annual St. Valentine’s Day dinner-dance a great success. Through your efforts and generosity, the parish is well on its way to getting a Mass schedule/

general announcement board for the parking lot. The lap-top computer grand prize was won by Jack Gabriel of St. Ephrem Syriac council 13890. We of the council are all looking forward to hosting this event again next year.

Religious Education classes for February will be:

Sunday: 19, 26 Wednesday: 22 THERE WILL BE NO CLASSES ON MARCH 1.

ALTAR FLOWERS Altar flowers this week were donated by

Pat Griffiths in memory of

Joseph Lawler

PRAY THE ROSARY Join the Knights of Columbus in the Marian Chapel every Wednesday night at 7:00 PM to pray the rosary. All are welcome.

ASHES Ash Wednesday is March 1. Please bring your palms from last year and place them in the basket provided in the narthex. These palms will then be burned to provide the ashes that will be used on Ash Wednesday. Masses on Ash Wednesday will be at 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

The Ladies’ Guild will hold its annual Mardi Gras celebration

on Tuesday, February 28, at 6:30 PM in the parish hall. All women of St. John’s are invited to come for an evening of good food, good music, and good fun! This is an opportunity for women to meet other women in our parish and learn about the services that the Ladies’ Guild provides for St. John’s. Ladies, please mark February 28 on

your calendar and come and be our guests as we celebrate Mardi Gras!

ST. JOHN’S EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE MINISTRY JANUARY, 2017

During the month of January, the Emergency Assistance Minis-try distributed food and assistance to 508 families, for a total number of 1,285 members. As usual, this has been possible

with the donations from St. John’s parishioners, Feeding North East Florida, and BEAM. The ministry is also pleased to announce that both FNEF and BEAM will continue to work with St. John’s during 2017.

ATTENTION: ALL LITURGICAL MINISTERS This is a reminder to all Altar Servers, Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, and Hospitality Ministers. Please make sure you have set up your profiles on the Ministry Scheduler Pro web site. It is very important that all ministers access their schedules through Ministry Scheduler Pro. Letters giving instructions about how to do this were e-mailed to all ministers. If you have questions about how to do this, please call the office (246-6014) and set up your profile prior to the end of February.

AMUSING ANECDOTE A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, 5, and Ryan, 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. “If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, ‘Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait.’” Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, “Ryan, you be Jesus!” (Do you have a great, clean, church joke? Send your submissions to [email protected].)
