to written language and how it is used fordifferent purposes.

• I took notes while students led a discussionabout the differences between formal andsocial language. They came up with examplesof each and determined when each type oflanguage was appropriate.

• The following slides feature screen captures ofsome of the lists that were created on theStarboard.

• When publishing writing online or sending writingin an e-mail, we are teaching and advertisinghow educated we are!

• Before hitting the “send” button, or the “postcomment” button, always proofread your writingto make sure you have used your best writing.

• It is always a good idea to have a teacher, aparent, or a guardian look at your writing withyou before sending it in an e-mail or posting itonline.*I’m a teacher and I still ask my Dad, my sister, or a co-worker to look over important e-mails.
