CLEVELAND

CLEVELAND AAR

• BARRIERS TO ALCOHOL ARREST REFERRAL.

• BACKGROUND.

• CONTENT OF AN INTERVENTION.

• CASE STUDIES.

Reasons why Alcohol Arrest Referral in custody won’t work.

• Offenders will be too drunk to do a meaningful intervention.

• Won’t be enough time for an hour long intervention to take place while they are in custody.

• Won’t be able to get staff who will only work weekends, 6am to 2pm.

• No one is interested in alcohol-its not illegal.• Alcohol users won’t admit they have a problem.• An intervention will interfere with the custody process.• Custody staff won’t be bothered - we all like a drink

THERE IS NO SAFE LIMIT

Many drivers guess when they will be safe. DON’T GUESS, the only safe way is to calculate when alcohol free by working out units drank & one hour needed per unit for liver to metabolise alcohol.
