They are aggressive animals at first, as the main weapon with the tail, which can be very

painful, when they are too scared or angry they bite

Iguana marina

Has the unique ability among modern lizards, living and foraging at sea.

The iguanas have developed a salt gland that removes excess salt in the body, for that reason sneeze salt

particles, which will accumulate in the nostrils, which can not close.

They are under constant pressure from non-native predators like rats, feral cats, and dogs, who feed on their eggs and young. They are protected throughout the archipelago and

are considered vulnerable to extinction.

The adult male has about 1.3 m long, while females 0.6 m,

males weigh 1.5 kg.

The iguanas have something

commonly called the "third eye", a

special area of skin located at the top of the head, which serves to

detect only light and darkness.

When swimming, these animals slow their heart rate to keep warm. Even your

heart can stop safely. Edure in the water 5minutes without air

Marine iguanas often wear distinctive white "wigs" of salt expelled from glands near

their noses.
