Purpose of the Project

• Condition assessment for Hugh Smith• Programmatic assessment for both facilities• Evaluation of site alternatives• Feasibility of co-locating facilities • Evaluate alternatives for senior services• Identification of aquatic needs

History of Facilities

Hugh Smith Recreation Center & Pool

• Originally built in 1963 by the YMCA• Transferred ownership to city in 1972• 25,000 SF two story building• 25 yard, 5 lane pool

Senior Center

• Constructed in 1994• 10,000 SF building

East Arlington Library

• Opened in 1970, first branch library• In 2000 renovated/expanded building to10,000 SF

Status Update

• Architect has completed a visual assessment of buildings

• Council approval of 14 member citizen committee 6-18-13

• First committee meeting held July 30th

• First public meeting held August 3rd • Architect compiling information from public

meeting
