Stations of the Cross
This week we began the installation of the new Stations of the Cross for our church.
Each station is an original work carved by the Italian art studio of Ferdinand Stuflesser
especially for Holy Martyrs. Their style and the materials used were chosen specifically
for our church. Once the installation is completed, special lighting will be added to
illuminate each station.
A word of sincere thanks to all those who helped make our new Stations possible. Those who helped in
the planning stages, those who contributed financially, and our remarkable Buildings and Grounds
Committee who oversaw the whole project and were responsible for their installation deserve the
appreciation and gratitude of our entire parish community.
Look for the special section in next week’s bulletin that will highlight our new Stations and why this
devotion has been an important part of Catholic spirituality for over a thousand years.

An Invitation
In a few weeks our choir will resume
rehearsals and singing weekly at the 9:30am Mass. Have
you ever considered becoming a member of our choir, or
could you share your musical talent as a song leader or
instrumentalist at any of the weekend Masses? We are
looking for new (and returning) singers and instrumental-
ists to participate in and enhance our music ministry.
Prior musical experience is a plus but is not a require-
ment. All that is needed is a desire to learn and an
enthusiasm to elevate our communal prayer at Mass
through music.
The choir will be hosting a picnic at the pavilion on
the parish grounds on Sunday, August 27 from
1:00-400 pm. All current and former choir members
along with their spouse, as well as those interested in
joining the choir are invited to attend.
For more information feel free to contact our Music
Director, Christopher Ilg at cilg@holymartyrs.net.
Little Rock Bible Study
will begin a new study on September 12;
Women of the New Testament (8 sessions).
Please join us on Tuesdays in Room 103 at 1:00 pm.
Books will be available.
No prior Bible Study is required.
All are welcome!
Holy Martyrs Ministry of Assistance will be
in the Gathering Area next weekend after
Masses to accept your financial and food
donations. However, food donations are
accepted at anytime. Certain staples are
always needed, like pasta and spaghetti sauce,
cereal, tuna, peanut butter, soups, canned
vegetables. Checks made out to Holy Martyrs with
Ministry of Assistance (MOA) on the memo line are
always welcome and very much appreciated. Thank you
for helping those in need.

Faith & Values Appeal for Education
Catholic Schools are communities of faith, knowledge
and service. Academic success and rigorous achieve-
ment mark our schools as outstanding institutions.
Essential to the Christian message is the command of
Christ to serve others. Our students are at their best
when they exemplify in their actions this command, and
they do so daily. Students, their parents, grandparents
and other family members sacrifice to provide a
Catholic education and are grateful for tuition
assistance provided through the Faith & Value Appeal
for Education. Please pray that the generosity of our
parishioners will continue to support the formation of
our youth in Catholic schools where faith makes a
difference. To donate online, go to
www.CatholicCommunity.org/eddonate or call Karen
Joyce at 800-869-6525 ext. 1910.

10 Things Pope Francis Wants You to Know About the Family (V) part I)
Children: “Have courage and go forward”
Pope Francis continues his encouragement of the family as he is speaking to the children.
In August 2015, Pope Francis encourages children to recognize their duty to help the world find new ways to prevent and
end these dangerous conflicts.
“What would a society, a family, a group of friends be without tensions and without conflicts? Do you know what it would
be?” he asked the youth.” “A cemetery. Because there are no tensions and no conflicts in dead things. When there is life,
there is tension and there is conflict.”
“How is tension resolved?” the pontiff asked. “ With dialogue. When in a family there is dialogue, when in a family there is
this capacity to say spontaneously something someone is thinking, tensions resolve themselves well.”
“Do not have fear of tensions!” he exhorted the group.” “But also, be cunning! Because if you love the tension for the
tension, this will make you ill and you will be a young person that loves always being in tensions. No: Tension comes to
help us make a step toward harmony.”
(to be continued next week)
