Dear student!
Environmental sustainability is a core issue or the University o Oslo. Transition to a greenersociety requires all o us to contribute regardless o whether youre student, university leader,
researcher, administrator or technical sta.
People are creatures o habit. At the same time, we have a great capacity or innovation and
taking action when necessary. There is no better time than the beginning o a new semester to
make small changes that will contribute toward a more sustainable liestyle.
UiO has already achieved much with respect to environmental issues. However, there is alwaysroom or improvement and throughout this booklet you will read about ways that you can help
us become even more sustainable. You will also get tips or your own green choices.
The world needs universities to help understand and solve sustainability challenges. Actions
and choices we make both as individuals and at the university level can have a signicant
impact on society as a whole. You, as one student, can impact and be a part o the solutions our
society needs in order to become more sustainable.
We are looking orward to having you on board!

I want a more sustainable liestyle!
What can I do? Walk, bike or use public transport.
Get a reusable cup or your coee and bring your
water bottle along.
Avoid products with unnecessary plastic wrap-
ping; a lunch box rom home is the most envi-
ronmentally riendly choice.
Reduce your meat consumption. Meat contrib-
utes to about 18 % o greenhouse gas emissions.
Talk to your riends about green alternatives. Social
media can be ecient communication channels.
Check out the list o fea markets (www.loppemarkeder.ino) and have a look at
the Green Guide to Oslos list o organic restaurants, green apps and second-hand stores(www.gronnguide.no).
Theres only one corner o the universe you can be certain o improving, and
thats your own sel. So you have to begin there, not outside, not on other people.
That comes aterward, when youve worked on your own corner. - Aldous Huxley
