Movement & muscle knee & Ankle Joint

Movement on Knee Joint

FLEXION

EXTENSION

INWARD ROTATION

OUTWARD ROTATION

FLEXIONknee flexors are a

group of muscles

which cross the

posterior of

the knee joint

whose

contraction

induces flexion o

f the joint.

EXTENSION

Extension is a movement of a joint that results in increased angle between two bones or body surfaces at a joint.

INWARD ROTATION

Internal rotation

(also known as medial rotation) is rotation towards the center of the body.

OUTWARD ROTATION

External rotation (or

lateral rotation) is rotation away

from the center of the body.

KNEE JOINT-MUSCLES INVOLVED• FLEXION:- SEMITENDI-

NOSUS, SEMIMEMBRA-NOSUS OR BICEPS FEMORIS

• EXTENSION:- RECTUS FEMORIS OR VASTUS GROUP

• INWARD ROTATION:-SEMITENDI-NOSUS, SEMIMEMBRA-NOSUS

• OUTWARD ROTATION:-BICEPS FEMORIS

Rectus Femaris & Vastus Group

MOVEMENT OF ANKLE & FOOT JOINT

DORSI FLEXION

PLANTER FLEXION

INVERSION

EVERSION

DORSI FLEXION

Dorsi flexion is the movement which decreases the anglebetween the dorsum (superior surface) of the foot and the leg, so that the toes are brought closer to the shin.

PLANTER FLEXION

Plantar flexion is the

movement which

increases the

approximate 90

degree angle

between the front

part of the foot and

the shin,

INVERSION & EVERSION

• Inversion is the movement of the sole towards the median plane (as when an ankle is twisted).

• Eversion the anatomical term of motion denoting the movement of the sole of the foot away from the median plane

ANKLE & FOOT JOINT- MUSCLES INVOLVED

• Dorsi flexion :- Tibialis

, Extensor Digitorum

longus.

• Planter Flexion:-

Gastrocnemius or

soleus.

• Inversion:- Tibialis

Anterior.

• Eversion:- extensor

Digitorum
