Abstract Abstract

This project presents a new system configuration for a hybrid wind/solar energy system.

This configuration allows the two sources to supply the load separately or simultaneously depending on the availability of the energy sources.

energy sourcesenergy sourcesEnvironmentally friendly solutions are becoming more prominent than ever as a result of concern regarding the state of our deteriorating planet.

With increasing concern of global warming and the depletion of fossil fuel reserves, many are looking at sustainable energy solutions to preserve the earth for the future generations.

Other than hydro power, wind and photovoltaic energy holds the most potential to meet our energy demands.

Introduction to Solar Introduction to Solar EnergyEnergySolar Energy was invented many

years back with a piece of shiny metal which can reflect sunrays, it satisfied the basic need of cooking and heating in ancient days.

In modern days it is being used in many ways by converting the solar energy to electrical energy with a Solar Panel

Introduction to Wind Introduction to Wind EnergyEnergyWind is also a form of solar energy.

Winds are caused by the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun.

Wind flow patterns are modified by the earth’s terrain, bodies of water and vegetation.

Wind turbines are used to grab this wind to rotate themselves and thus convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical and then to electrical by rotating alternators which are connected internally

Wind turbines start operating at wind speeds of 4 to 5 metres per second and reach maximum power output at

around 15 metres/second.

Introduction to Hybrid Wind-Introduction to Hybrid Wind-Solar Energy SystemSolar Energy SystemThe common inherent drawback

of wind and photovoltaic systems are their intermittent natures that make them unreliable.

However, by combining these two intermittent sources, the system’s power transfer efficiency and reliability can be improved significantly.
